6 lb 5 oz in short action 6.15 in long
we can make it in any caliber- we add a small up charge in non standard calibers to offset tooling needs. But yes I have one currently in 6.5 Creedmoor

May I suggest a few additions for the larger calibers seeing as you will most likely be catering to the AH community and the like?

The threaded muzzle protector is a must...regardless of the other requests.
A barrel band front sling swivel and seal up the one on the stock.
Mount a barrel band hooded front sight with fiber optic post.
Rear V notch sight dovetailed to the barrel with a quarter rib.

And while I'm asking for the world...
Machined in mounts on the action for QD rings.

Do all that and keep the price under $3.5K...you will not be able to keep this rifle in stock.
Make two models the CB Alaskan in stainless and synthetic, the other walnut and blued AH edition!

Rather than asking those of us that prefer to 404 a more relevant question would be to riflemakers: Why don't you chamber a rifle for 404J as a standard chambering? Winchester took a chance about 60 years ago on the 458 Win Mag and they sold all over projected sales. the same could happen with the 404J. Here's why: It can handle .423" bullet weights from 300 to 500 grains at velocity levels from 2100 to 2800 fps. It has performance on dangerous game while still having manageable recoil. It is suitable for all around use. It has a slightly bottlenecked cartridge so it doesn't need a belt for headspacing. The neck is quite long so even heavy for caliber bullets may be seated deeply and still not interfere with powder space. The cartridge base is "non-normal", being neither the .532" of belted magnums nor the larger diameter of the Rigby & Weatherby groups, but there are sufficient makers that finding brass is not a problem. Same thing for hunting grade bullets- great bullets are available from Woodleigh, NorthFork, Swift and others. the only freal downside is that there isn't much available for lightly constructed inexpensive bullets that a shooter could use for expanded range time. but that is a minor problem since there are cast bullets either available for purchase or cast by the shooter. At present I get .427" bullets from Oregon Trail. these are 200 grain bullets designed for the .44/40, but by running them through a .423" sizing die, they work well as practice/plinking loads. A near casefull of Trail Boss and these bullets allows for inexpensive range time, then finishing off the trip with bullets that duplicate the trajectory of the premium hunting bullets and the rifle becomes very well known to the user.

I really have two favorites when considering a boltaction heavy game rifle: the 404J and the 458 Win Mag. They are quite similar though having slightly different niches; but they both accomplish the same duty: sending a heavy sturdy bullet at sufficient velocity to put down any animal on Earth while not have retina detaching recoil, but also can be loaded with lighter bullets and loads for use on less dangerous animals and even those where rifles such as the 270 Win might be considered appropriate, but for the terrain that limits shots to less than 150 yards.

the more that I think about it, the more I am confused as to why no major rifle maker offers the 404J as a standard chambering.

Forgot to mention that you may want to up the weight just a wee bit for the 404J.
I will default to others who have shot the 404J for the specific weight but I will take a guess at 8.5-10# for a range.

My 375 H&H SS synthetic stocked, muzzle brake, sling, loaded and with VX-6 scope is right at 10 lbs on my scale.

I agree with you, 10# is right around what I would be looking for in a 375H&H production rifle.
However a 404J that comes in at 7#, that's a whole new ballgame.

I think what they mean is 6 lb 5 oz for short and 6 lb 15 oz for long.
That's all I got, unless they mean the long action is actually 6.15#.
Can't we just use grams as a unit of measure for weight and be done with the imperial system.

Is that weight even possible for a DG rifle ?my 458 Lott weighs 9# 6 oz ready for the need, and it is about as light as I want it. My Kimber 375 h&h weighs 8+ and 6 # in a 505 G would be formidable.

I believe he means 6.15 inches long. I don’t think he meant to spec any of their DG rifles at 6 lb 5 oz. I believe he was answering for the 280AI rifle.
My 375 H&H I gave the specs for above is their CBE model. Their weights are not on the website that I could find. All I have seen/handled are close to the same as Win Mdl 70s. Maybe a bit heavier even.
Personally I did not want a CBE model, but I wanted a rifle set up for Alaska, ie, stainless steel, synthetic stock, ceracote, etc. I also needed a muzzlebrake due to a torn retina. I have removed the brake to try to use it without and see how my eye does. But Id rather be deaf than blind!

That's one thing I have noticed about the options as the caliber goes above 375, not a lot of stainless/synthetic options.
Probably due to the fact that most who want these calibers are going to Africa where the weather is just a wee bit more arid.
Plus beautiful wood is part of the mystique of owning a DG caliber rifle.

Any word on the QD compatible action, quarter rib, V-notch rear sight, barrel band front sling stud and barrel band front fiber optic sight?
All that chambered for 404 Jeff would be kinda sweet...matter of fact, really sweet.

I’m glad to see them offer a 404j. Now we’ll just have to wait and see. Wonder if these will be available in left handed version. We’ve been waiting a few years for a left handed ph action. I did have them put together me a 458lott a few years ago and it came out the way I wanted it. It weighs 8.2 so is that going to be around the weight for the 404?

We are using all input in the new products. we will have a leaf sight and sling swivel on the 404J. We will have the new products up first week of January, as well as our new web site
We will offer an Alaskan series with synthetic /cerakote etc as well as African Series in wood.
I think all will be happy with the selections.
There were always rumors of a "coming soon" left hand PH action- but there were never any efforts made by the previous owners to do this--
We are currently going into production on the PH action in both stainless and Chromoly-- and will "actually deliver " these offerings in first quarter 2019-
We are making progress guys and fast!!
