I was surfing the Courteney website this past weekend and came across this interesting picture:

Nothing says "Dagga Boy" like John Sharp emerging from a mud hole.

When I was corresponding with John and peppering him with questions prior to booking, one thing he made clear...Courteney boots are his preferred boot for stalking in close to Buffalo.

I bought a pair from Jim at African Sporting Creations and the more I wear them the more I love them.

I have Morton's foot and these are the only boots I have worn that have not aggravated my tendon!

Bought mine from @African Sporting Creations about 4 years ago I believe. I have worn them every season except winter (well once or twice then too just to see). They are my favourite camp, dog walking, hiking and gardening boot!

I bought a pair of Courtney Selous boots from Jim in the spring. Excellent service. He really made sure I got the right size by going beyond what I expected for service. That was much appreciated guidance for my first safari. And the boots got 30+ days of hunting this year in Namibia, Idaho, MT and MN. They really are quiet boots.

I bought a pair of Courteney boots at DSC. I go through 2 pairs of hunting boots a year on average guiding hunts. I bought these Courteney’s and wore them around a few weeks after buying them to help break them in before hunting. I just walked in the door from guiding a Catalina hunt and after wearing these Courtney boots for this hunt I can say without a doubt these are the absolute best hunting boots I’ve ever owned. If these things last as long as people say they do I cant imagine ever buying anything else for a general hunting boot. I am way impressed.

I don’t know anything of his business but he was helpful and has posted my Selous booots.

I put insoles in mine, as well.

I got wide boots, to ensure my toes weren't squished. But then needed some help in other areas. I also tend to wear mine with thicker, wool socks.

Just got a pair of Courtney selous boots from @African Sporting Creations. Great guy to deal with and is very patient and knowledgeable (I ask a lot of questions). He had the answers and knows his products. He got me in the perfect set of boots and they fit better then my meindls which I tried on over thirty pairs of boots before buying the denalis. If you need a pair of Courtney's in the US give them a call. I can not recommend them enough.

Help please. First yes African Sporting creations is awesome. I love the Courtney Boot mystique. However I just got my first pair. They seem to fit with no slippage and not tight. However, they are heavy and seem to have little arch support. I have a blister on right pinky toe. I have worn them only twice and am concerned. Will put a corn band aide on toe and hope it is just breaking them in. Appreciate the groups thoughts

They are heavy because they are well made and have little if any synthetic material in their construction. They are designed for and do a good job protecting from thorns. They are best used with gaiters. I like the original thin impala? leather gaiters by Courteney. Being all leather except the soles of course, they absolutely will and do break in. I have hard feet to fit properly. I have extremely high arches and insteps and fairly narrow feet. I have two pair of Courteneys, one Selous and one Safari and neither were a perfect fit at first try. However with liberal use of alcohol and a set of home made toe box stretchers, I modified with a rasp, I was able to get mine just right. I also have used a lot of the dressing as supplied by Courteney, the stuff in the white tub -a whipped blend of lanolin, neats foot and beeswax. I think the dressing helped soften them just enough during the break in period to aid in the process. Except for snow and wet conditions I wear mine nearly every day. Once broken in, for walking long distances in the heat and sand nothing beats them! I use half length insoles in both pair- for just the heel and about to mid arch.

@Rare Breed don’t give up! Every new pair of quality leather boots that I have ever had require more break-in work that synthetic. @fourfive8 is correct to use a lot of leather oil/conditioner to soften the parts that rub. The stuff provided with the boots works.
I usually start by wearing them for an hour or two around the house. Typically I work up in time per use until they are comfortable. It might take 6-10 wearings to break them in.
