Decision between two M70 300 H&H's

The pre-64 would be my pick. I did buy a LH M70 Classic in stainless/synthetic for my oldest son in 416 Remington. At his request we had the barrel shortened to 22" and had it CeraKoted. He likes it a lot. Here's an earlier picture. It's got a Leupold 1.5-5x scope on it now with Cerakoted Talley steel QR rings. He got his first black bear with it (it was way overkill, his 270 would've been just fine, but a new gun and all of that :) ).

I really like my 416 RM also, pleasant to shoot and nice to reload for. As far as over kill, the quicker they go down, the better in my book!
Thanks for the reply

I am on Peregrinebullets.com and can order from the site. Going to get some of the match bullets for load development as recommended in the plainsmaster page. Looks like a hell of a bullet! PlainsMasters are 53.90/50, is that about what you are getting them for? 180 grain bullets is what I'm looking at
The match bullets do hit exactly the same as the plainsmaster, as advertised. I did the same as you, only bought the plainsmaster at the same time, figured once the match were hitting well, I'd have the others ready to load. It's a great bullet, you will be happy with them

I bought both with the same thought process, figuring when I get the match sorted out I would load up some plainsmaster and verify POI. Excited to try them out, they look like they will be a great all-around bullet for critters in the 300 H&H's category.
Cheers,
Cody

Some info on CRF M70s; Tom Turpin wrote an article published in a Peterson Publication titled Model 70. In it he wrote "In the mid-'80s, Safari Club International sponsored the Guns of the Big Five series of rifles. SCI selected custom maker David Miller to build the first and last rifles in the series. Looking for something spectacular for the final rifle, David convinced USRAC to produce a couple of actions that combined the best features of both the pre- and post-'64 actions. One of these unique actions was to be used for that final rifle in the series. When the package containing the new/old actions arrived in Tucson from New Haven, David called and invited me up for the "unveiling". I was overjoyed to accept The action was almost a litter mate of the per-'64 product but retained some desirable features of later versions. Sworn to secrecy, I had to sit on the news..."

In another article it notes that a few years after the SCI rifle USRAC put the CRF action into production first in selected magnum chamberings. As I recall these were 7mmMag, 300 & 338 Win Mag- called the Super Grade, which is the model noted in the receipt that I saw in a review of the sale/return noted above.

OK, this has gone on long enough. I know the Pre-64 showed up, how does it shoot? What's the latest on the mid 70s gun? Inquiring minds want to know.

Well, I got a scope mounted on the one and haven't heard from them on the other! I'm going to call them this morning and find out where it is. Going to try to shoot the Pre64 tonight

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary

Booked with Harold Grinde - Gana River - they sure kill some good ones - who'd you get set up with?
