I progressed and upgraded through the years. Once I looked through the swaro scopes I was sold. I have several different brands but mainly stick to swaro, Kahles, and Leica.
At work we had a big debate on glass and which is better - everyone gave their two cents and couldn’t agree (no surprise). So we all agreed to meet at one guys house and bring a bunch of different brand Binos, scopes and spotting scopes. Side by side comparison at low light from 100 yards to 2 miles of so.
So out come the scopes - cabelas brand, Simmons, Burris fullfield, vortex, tascos, Leupold Vx3 and VX5, nightforce (can’t remember which model), Zeiss conquest and diavari, Kahles, swaro Z3/Z5 and leica ER and magnus. The consensus was there was definitely a huge difference between the cheaper scopes and the top shelf - night and day so to speak. Light gathering and clarity were excellent and the non believers were sold on upgrading. Non of us could really agree on “the best” of the bunch but the swaro, Kahles, Leica, Zeiss were too close to call. I personally think the Leica magnus wins by a hair and surprisingly the conquest was one of the better for light gathering.
For the spotting scopes we had burris, vortex, Leupold and swaro. Swaro was the easy winner - especially at distance for clarity and at lower light.
Binos was the same with swaro easily winning - we didn’t have Leica Binos to compare, but I’d imagine a too close to call outcome.
I think this was a great exercise to compare the glass quality and help decide which you prefer. I am sure there are light meters to help judge this - but as I don’t have any cool tech I will stick to this method.
