Both the Heym and VC have great reputations and are well made. Either rifle will last you a lifetime. I would base my decision on how the rifle fit me and not give the strength of the action a second thought with either of these fine guns.

I will be back in Zim next week and try and make contact with both. As I have mentioned I have heard nothing but good things about Jerome. No matter what she buys I hope to meet Jerome one of these days. I hate to tell the story on how she got the money to buy the rifle (no not that way) lets just say she ended up with a english double that ended up being worth big $$$$$$. I just came across a story in one of the current mags about this newly discovered piece of history!

Take her to where they have both rifles and let her pick. She is the one that has to shot it and like it.

She has handled and looked at both. She heavily leans towards the Heym says "it looks like it's ready to go to work" (in here best Festus Ken Curtis imitation). Did I mention she hates hunting shows or Dvds, but Gunsmoke, Have Gun will Travel, Lone Ranger, Cisco Kid, Wanted dead or alive, Johnny Yuma, she seen every episode

Which Heym is she looking at? If I had to buy a .470 or .450 now to serve as an ad-on to my current Gibbs 450-400 3&1/4" I would also consider a new rifle in stead of the vintage British doubles I so love, purely because I feel bad for working them to hard. My choice would be in this order
1. Heym 89B, resemling a Webley & Scott of old
2. Verney
3. Heym 88B.

And then as a wildcard, having seen John Marrozi of Woodleigh Hydro fame go to work with his Sabatti .500, I would not say a bad word about them again.

I certainly don't feel bad using mine. Probably gets no more than 20 rds year thru it. Bores are mint & tight as drum. I had a identical g Gibbs 450 400 3 1/4 I think there was about 15 digits difference in serial #s

Finished our trip to RSA and back in Zimbabwe, thank god all we have to deal with now is potholes!
After looking at both the Heym 88B .470 and the VC she is heavily leaning towards the 88B with just a couple of options case coloured receiver, 26"bbls, flip up moon sight, in stock recoil reducer & regulated for Federal Premium Woodleigh Hydro. She loves the .450-.400 Heym that she shoots now, just needs something a bit bigger. In Zimbabwe we are limited to the amount of firearms owned. For a PH five. For a Safari Co. fifteen as a result normally when you buy one, one has to go which can be a hard decision. In this case it is a CZ .375 H&H. Her M-70 .375 H&H, never!
Hopefully we can attend the Hunting Expo in RSA at the end of April. I would like to meet "Jerome", seems as if he has quite a following!

South Africa is not one of my favourite places to visit. We just go there for supplies, prices are way to expensive in Zimbabwe. It is one hell of a long way to go for a can of Tuna which is about $12.00 in Zim. The prices come from Zim. retailers ripping the public and have nothing to due with the govt. Fortunately we know which parking lot guards to use and we have a very secure lodge (Bushmans Rock) that we stay at. I always say you might have your cell phone stolen in Zimbabwe, but "they" will not kill you for it as they do in RSA!

It never ceases to amaze me how South Africas neighbours bad mouth the country. However they still need us for supplies , medical assistance , beach holidays , and in some cases to bring their clients for hunts.....

I standby my comments and as I stated. Your country has its problems as ours does. Possibly you have noticed the problems in your country. I sure as help have noticed the many, many problems in mine. Ours seem to be getting better.

Might I mention one of our favorite security guards at Builders Whse. Zambezi Dr., Pretoria. His house was broken into his 2 cell phones TV and R900.00 was stolen. He was then shot in the hand. The two criminals were Zimbabweans. After 5 days the police had not responded. We gave him what little cash we had left, after we had spent a great deal of money in your country.

I hope both countries prosper.

I like Zimbabwe and have my opinion about a few things there , but will keep this to myself on a public forum. Just too much bad mouthing going on these days. Really bad taste.

With all due respect , the fact that your wife is an Afrikaner has nothing to do with this discussion.

I wish both countries the best and lets gets this discussion back on track about marvelous big game Double rifles.

You asked,I gave a honest reply! I am down to just two doubles + 1 for sale. If I talked about my George Gibbs all I could say is, it's always there, always works, always hits where it is supposed to. Now the other one its a different story. My wife's Heym does the same just makes a smaller hole.

I dare say that after meeting Jerome, her decision will be much, much harder. He’s a class act and is a most considerate purveyor of superb products. If your wife prefers a forward balance, he can certainly make it happen for her.

Personally I would take a V-C in a heartbeat, but then I’ve not handled a Heym double......

Ultimately it’s your coin, so spend it in the way that makes her happy.
