I've been at DSC for the last couple of days and held a LEFT HAND Heym 88 in 470 Nitro Express for the first time ever. It was amazing... Where I looked, it pointed, exactly. The fit seemed perfect (I'm average sized) and the safety and triggers felt natural as I grew up shooting a side by side 16 gauge shot gun. The balance also blew me away and the rifle felt MUCH lighter than my CZ 550, even knowing it wasn't.

The price of $17K was less than I expected, but it was still out of budget, for now... I have a feeling I may "invest" in one at some point. Especially since you never know when you'll be charged by an elephant in Atlanta, GA...

Side Note: I met Phoenix Phil and quite enjoyed the conversation! Too bad I didn't get to talk to him longer, or go to the dinner!

Good luck with your investment program.

Thanks Brickburn.

The great thing is that my wife wanted me to get it. Isn't that 99% of the battle????

Did you happen to look at the left handed Verny Carron rifles too? That new round action sure looks good in the pictures and the wood is fantastic.

I missed them, dang it... :( Wish I had seen them!

This is the 'Drool Factor' for the VC rifles. With the new round action and the English splinter style forearm they are beautiful.

Nice...

I was at the DSC show too. I spent some time at the Heym booth as I have a 88PH model. I saw the left handed model you were looking at. Was very nice. Save your bucks and get one. I promise you wont be disappointed.

As did I Royal, glad it was a near miss on meeting you and I caught up to you! Plan on next year, we'll be having the dinner again.

I was proud of my self control, I must have walked by that Heym booth a hundred times, stopped only once and managed NOT to pick one of those beauties up.

Royal good that her ladyship wants you to get one , and mike they are very nice all being well will go and tease myself looking at them in vegas....:)

Heym,

I'm sure I'll get one at some point, finances permitting. Right now though it would cost me a trip to Africa, and I'd rather do another trip and be forced to shoot my poor little .375 H&H as opposed to sitting home. :)

Phil,

Not picking up was wise.... That was my mistake!!! if I hadn't the left handed model I wouldn't have stopped, but.... It is simply a pain to find a rifle above .375 in left hand and I couldn't resist. ;) Heck, I bought my CZ550 having never seen the left handed model in person!

I met Phil at DCS also..great guy..and drinking margaritas with the guys from Hartzview wayyyyyy into the night was fun as well. A great bunch of guys no doubt! The fact that your wife wanted you to get it..OMG...that would have done it for me...such great discipline you have.... my Searcy taking forever...but I'll get there. IF you get a Heym..don't worry you wont regret it!! I promise.

Royal27,

You cannot possibly go wrong with the Heym.

Mine is a 1980s oldie, in .458 Winchester, 25.5" ejector barrels, upper grade wood, blah, blah.
It weighs about 9.9 Lb, empty which I say is light for any .458 but it regulates so well with Hornady 500 gr DGS (meplat/flat nose FMJ) factory ammo and it will carry well at that light weight THAT, I am way happy with it.
You will be happy as well when you get one in any caliber of your choosing.

One of these days I plan to experiment with some 400 gr loads at about 2125 fps to start, until I get something to regulate in that lighter weight.
Then, I will have a less recoiling practice load, to "plink" with quite a bit.

Regards,
Velo Dog.

AND YOU DIDN"T BUY IT??? You'll learn sooner or later. Opportunities like that are rare. Take advantage while yu can.

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
