Once again, some truly warped and disturbed minds have come here to post negative comments on Ian Gibsons memorial thread..........one particularly disturbed individual posted something like 19 times on the same thread in a span of a few minutes........truly sick and twisted.; too bad Obamacare doesn't provide funding for anencephaly.
I'm sure as more and more crap like this "Cecil the friendly lion" misinformation hits the net, we will be inundated with similar threats, death wishes, and other garbage. Quite frankly, I don't come here to read that, and if any of those individuals would like to meet up somewheres in an alley to "discuss" their threats, I will be more than happy to oblige them......but I seriously doubt that will ever happen (Cowards being cowards). I don't feel we should have to deal with it on memorial threads, however.
I would like to propose a forum.....call in a memorial forum or whatever.....where those that have passed on to their reward can be memorialized and the threads locked after a certain period of time so that they can be viewed by those who wish to view them, but not vandalized by "hate posts" from mental pygmies. From my perspective, what these idiots do is akin to smashing headstones in a cemetery, and I am damn tired of it.
Anyway, those are my thoughts.................does anyone else feel the same way?

So here is where I am on this issue. The idea of "locking the door" irks me a bit. It would be nice if a person could find that thread a year later and wish condolences. That being said, if Jerome does decide to lock such a thread it wouldn't really bother me either, I just think it is sad that we have to do that.

Here is what really bothers me, and I'm glad you started the thread for this reason. Why do members feel the need to respond to such vitriol within that thread? It is exactly what those things want us to do. Everytime we respond within that thread we help those things to feed their sickness. What I would really like to happen is for us to quit responding, period, and let the moderators do their job. Today was a bad day because both Brickburn and Jerome weren't around to ban the antis, and to control our side too.

I actually sent Jerome a PM a little while ago and let him know that I hoped he would delete every single post that was put in that thread today.

I have no problem with non/anti hunters ,entering in on threads , as long as they keep it fair dinkum , and not come here to make a dick of them selves ,

The idea of locking the thread irks me as well, but having people (and I use the term loosely) come here and post such negativities on a memorial thread pisses me off even more. As far as responding: it's just human nature...........someone issues an insult, and it becomes a challenge; we too often have to 'walk away' from it in "real" life: work, home, etc......the internet is pretty much the only place we can get payback. I think part of it also is this is our site.....our "turf"; go an spew your vitreolic crap somewheres esle.....it don't belong here. While I agree that they are just looking for "attention", I don't think "ignoring them" will cause them to go away........if anything, there like the kid in the grocery store that just screams louder to get what he wants.

I have to agree with you strongly here Royal. I got caught up in reading it and was ready to let the fingers fly a few times, but then held back. When these idiots show up, it's like driving in the middle of nowhere when you realize you need to take a leak. You keep driving in the hopes that somewhere along the line that rest stop shows up. But it doesn't and you finally have to stop and jump out of the truck and let loose just before you wet yourself. At first you feel so much better until you realized you've been pissing into the wind and you're now covered in urine.

Emotional outbursts seems to be all these people want, to drag you down into their sad little world, don't be a sucker for it.

I will say that I don't know that I agree with making it a paid site to enjoy. I support the site because I want to. As far as antis in general go, it is our job as hunters to educate the public. As long as they are willing to be respectful in their posts then we should be the same in our responses. As has already been mentioned @Vevew has done a great job from what I've seen of being respectful even though a few of us have thrown some cheap jabs at him, which we shouldn't have. From his post both sides have benefitted from the conversations.
Now as far as the disrespectful punks like today they should be banned and deleted immediately. I for one and the rest of us should refrain from even acknowledging their idiotic presence.

And guys I get it. Trust me, it wasn't easy for me to not respond there today, although more to tell everyone else to hush up than to respond to the things. I spent time in a camp with Ian, so this one is very personal to me. I'm not saying we were lifelong friends or anything, but I drank coffee with him every morning and ate dinner with him every night for two weeks. He was a hoot and doesn't deserve to be treated like this, nor does his family.

And "ignoring them" won't make them go away, but banning them sure will!

That's the punishment IMO. Ignore and ban. I think it was Jerome who told me about how mad some of these things got when he banned them. They were sending him e-mails demanding to be reinstated.... Can you believe that???

When you see these type of post why not just click the Report button and not reply to it. These jerks want you to get into a debate with them so ignoring them hurts their egos.

As for making this a paid site, that is questionable. I am here because it is free and there is a wealth of information that I used on my safari last May then there are the members that make it a fantastic site. The vast majority of them will help a newbee at the drop of a hat. I know that there are a lot of members on the forum here that can afford to pay a membership fee but there are also a lot of us out there that really can't. But then if perhaps we got a hat out of the deal then say $20.00 a year wouldn't be too bad.

Then there is the thing about blocking a IP address. Do you know that you can change your IP address anytime that you want? Also most of them are changed once a week. So unless the jerks have a static IP address which is one that never changes blocking them only stops them for a while. On another site that I am a moderator on we will block these people, but it doesn't help if they create a new user name and log back on. So there is really no way to stop them.
