Kimber seems unreasonable!

I’m looking for a light weight synthetic stainless steel rifle in 6.5 Creedmore for my granddaughter’s 2020 Africa hunt. She will be 14 then and I’m sure the stock will need to be shortened. I called Kimber C.S. To find out if their Montana or Hunter model stocks could be shortened. The answer was an unreasonable, to me, answer that it would void their warranty! Any of their guns! If warranty service was needed, they would charge you for a new stock first, mount it, then test it even if it were a bolt malfunction, broken firing pin or what ever the issue!
Am I being too critical, or does this sound unreasonable?

I just wanted a control round feed Model 70 type action in a light weight (she is 85 lbs) rifle.

Other than voiding the warranty on the stock itself it makes no sense to me why they would void the warranty on a rifle for shortening it's stock. Almost every rifle I own has had it's stock shortened or altered. Seems like standard procedure me. My brother had a Kimber Montana stock (the grey synthetic type) shortened for his son by a local gunsmith with no problems, so it can be done. Maybe call Kimber back and speak with a different Rep for a second opinion??

The Ruger FTW Hunter (CR feed, 3-pos safety) is stainless in 6.5 CM and has an adjustable stock with spacer inserts.

I can see where it would void the warranty on the stock, but voiding the whole rifle would be stupid.

If I were them i most certainly not cut the stock as then they would be accepting responsibility if the stock came apart and someone was injured.

Does anyone make a child length stock for it?

The problem with the Rugers are they’re heavy for a flyweight girl.

I sent a 1911 back to them to look at a feeding issue. They refused to send the pistol back. Then offered me a new one at a discount price through a dealer. No matter what, they wouldn't send it back they claimed the frame and barrel were out of spec. They said I got my use out of it, Needless to say I'm not a fan. 4k or so rounds of 45 ACP on an aluminum frame is all they say I will get. Guess I didn't t think of that nor do I think a gun is a short term proposition.

What about picking up an old 1896 Swedish Mauser in 6.5 x 55 and cutting down the wood stock on it? I reload for my Swedes and in all honesty they don't leave much on the table when compared to the Creedmore. I had a partially sporterized Swede cut down for my grandkids. It sports a K4 Weaver, Timney Trigger and safety, as well as a muzzle break.

Art, the weight of the rifle is of prime concern. It needs to be a stalking rifle. That is the way I plan to teach her to hunt (assuming I can hold up to that in 2020).

I was hoping scoped to be 6 1/2-6 3/4 lbs. she’s 5’ and 85 lbs dressed. She’s strong for her age and size, but as you know carrying a gun for hours can get very tiring.
I don’t want to discourage her just because a gun is heavy. She really wants to go hunt Africa. Being my only child, or grand child the least bit interested in hunting, I want it to be as comfortable as possible.
My very strong 200 lb grandsons aren’t the least bit interested.

I'd call again for a different rep and double check. I can see voiding the warranty of the stock, but if they do the work the rest of the rifle should remain covered.

I know you're dismayed with them but if its the rifle you really want, you could always go the route of having a local GS to the work and if warranty service is ever needed on the rifle buy a second hand stock to send the rifle in with.

MRC has their X3 that is just under 7#s, they have been active here the past few weeks if thats a route you want to take.

Tell Kimber goodbye. Tracker can carry the rifle for her. Still needs to be of a size, length and weight appropriate so she can shoot it comfortably. Weatherby makes a Camilla in their Vangard series in both 6.5 CM as well as 7mm-08. Weight is around 6 1/2 lbs. 13 inch length of pull and 20 inch barrel. Might be worth looking at. Also Savage has a Lady hunter series in same calibers and is 6 lbs but has a 12 1/2 in LOP. Both would be worth looking at.

No, but the rifle in 6.5 weights 5 lbs with a plastic stock. Unknown LOP.

Have you thought about a Ruger No 1? Great gun to learn on and the weight would be right in your ballpark.

WOW! Sounds like lots of options i need to look at.
I did look at the Win Featherweight (which its not BTW).
Most by the time you add even a light weight 3-9 and Talley rings are pushing the 8lb range.
