Exactly! It does hurt like hell but the 13-14-15 years you get of that amazing unconditional love and ever present companion is worth it!Hurts like hell every time we lose one. We lost two between last November and this January. Both lived long, wonderful lives and were loved. I've had people say "I'm not getting another dog because I cannot handle losing them" - I'm the opposite.. I cannot see going thru life without them!
Wouldn’t call him a pop but he’s all I have got

And the photo !Here is a pic of my girl Pippin . She is a bitch literally and metaphorically but wonderful company and a great guard dog. In this pic we have just come back from a shoot and she is “helping” me unload my 425 WR .
I also have an Ellie. Actually, her official name is Spinelle (predecessors were Pearl and Opal). Six Labs in sixty years. Why anyone would buy any other breed is a mystery to me. The ranch family that owns the property where I'm hunting now is on their first Lab. What a sweet dog. The missus asked me the other day what book she should get to train him for bird hunting. I laughed. "The same book I use: no book! Labs come ready to hunt right out of the chute." Over the years I have seen a couple in the field wearing electronics. Just a decoration. Owners showing off their newest digital toys.Exactly! It does hurt like hell but the 13-14-15 years you get of that amazing unconditional love and ever present companion is worth it!
Ellie, our current lab…our 3rd. And a great pet and huntress!
