Looking to buy a Left Hand big bore bolt gun

I know a guy with a custom rem 700 in .416 rem he might be willing to part with if you have any interest.

He had it built years ago for a bear hunt that never materialized.

I built the 416 RUM specifically to go on a brown bear hunt in Alaska next year which fell through for various reasons. I was going to get another Legend stock from Darcy but that proved to be problematic so I just put it in the wood stock I had (Long interesting story behind this stock).

I built it with the 350gr Barnes TTSX in mind and with RL17 2800fps in a 3.6" mag box is very realistic and I know some that have pushed them to 2900fps with longer OAL (duplicates 416 WBY for the sadists). At 2800fps sighted in 1.85" high at 100 its dead on at 200 and drops less than 8" to 300, and 23" at 400. Pretty much mimics the trajectory of a 30-06 loaded with a high BC 180gr bullet and generates over 6k lbs of energy at muzzle. The 375 RUM case got a bum wrap mainly because it was only chambered in 7.5lb Rem 700 push feeds with 13.5" LOP that kicked the snot out of people. Built on a 9-10lb CRF by someone that can make them feed they are great rifles.

...how much is the left-hand version of that stock? And why was it problematic? Too expensive? Minimum order size too big?

Whats left to do on the metalwork for the RUM?

Not sure what they run now but would guess in the $600 range…I bought mine as flat tops and had them CNC inlet.

Only thing that is problematic is getting them anymore. I think McMillan made changes requiring Darcy to order a qty of 10 at a time so waiting on 10 left handed people to order took a while. I have emailed him a number of times and can’t get any indication if they are still available. It’s sad because they are phenomenal.

Only thing left on my rifles is metal coating.

$600 seems fair to me as I am a "begger-can't-be-chooser leftie"...Stupid question, do they come in non-flat top option? Stupid question #2, I take it the stocks do not come pre-cut for an action model like CZ 550 or Model 70, and I'd need a gunsmith to do that work? How much does that normally cost?

Lastly, if it's between the synthetic Darcy stock, and a synthetic from Wayne at AHR, which one would you choose and why?

I think the Legend stocks used to come inlet for the Model 70 as that’s what Darcy used to use on his Legend rifles…I think he has since built his own actions as getting Classic actions sort of dried up. They used to have everything inlet except the bolt handle and sling swivels as Darcy was particular about those being specifically inlet by hand. Between myself and another left handed friend I know we would order a few more if they were available.

I asked for flat top specifically because I was running a straight bolt handle, a barrel mounted second recoil lug, and Sunny Hill bottom metal and McMillan can get a little loose on Inletting sometimes.

Wayne built the fiberglass stock on my 500 A-Square CZ 550 and it was ridiculously nice…fit and finish was equivalent between the two but they are different stocks. Sold that rifle and regret the hell out of it. For hard kickers I would lean towards Wayne’s design but they are both good. Not sure Wayne is building them anymore but if he is I might have him do my 416 RUM.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.

Have twice tried to post something that your site canned as "SPAM" or some problem.. "Contact the Administrator"... Not sure why even the "Contact" button would not send my comment so you only received my query but not the content in question. I'll see if I can get it to you this way... NOPE I use a VPN and perhaps that is causing me grief...
