I recently acquired a NIB LH Model 70 Classic Safari Express in .375 H&H. Weight is 9 lbs. 15 ozs.

I noticed that I can only get three rounds down in the magazine... I imagined that it would allow four rounds down? Is the magazine spring too stiff or am I going to have to be happy with three rounds?

The stock on this rifle is clubby and doesn't fit well. I am sending it to Aaron Little in TX to have a new stock built to fit.

3 down is standard for a belted mag, unless it has some type of drop belly magazine or stock design.

Wyatt, et. al. make higher capacity mags for them, and the time to correct is when a new stock is being built!

Many thanks to you both. Never owned a .375 before, so... learning.

Can’t remember if that spring has the sharp bend in the bottom. You might try a Mauser 98 spring in there. Have Aaron try some when you send it to him.

Sunnyhill has a dropped straddle floor plate for the Win Classic Safari Express. About 500 bucks. Think I'll go with that.

If I recall correctly, the fourth round down was something like a $1000 investment to get going between the Sunny Hill and the new stock which was a McMillan Safari I think. I didn't pursue it for this reason. Just didn't make sense to me. Rifle shoots very well. I can get it done in four rounds I think.

I’m with Forrest. I even bought a McMillan stock but got mine for factory on price bottom metal. I had the two piece but installed the PTG one piece.
I think the Sunny Hill has the inside the trigger guard release, which I don’t like.

I agree the winchester wood stock is clubby. I bought a synthetic stock for it and it is much nicer of a feel and dropped the weight. Currently, it is getting hydrodipped in a wood pattern.

Maybe something to consider

This is interesting... I have a Winchester M-70 Classic Custom Shop Super Grade in 338 Win Mag that holds four in the magazine and I have a Classic Super Grade in 264 Win Mag that only holds three?
I also have a 1950 M-70 375 H&H and it also holds four comfortably?
Do Pre-64 H&H and Custom Shop rifles hold more in their magazines?

Well, I am restocking because the rifle doesn't fit... the comb, my face and the scope are out of sync. I am sending this blank to Aaron as we 'speak'. I think that, if I am going to change things on the rifle that it is best to do it before the restock is begun. So the Sunnyside dropped bottom metal should happen now, if at all. And when I spoke with them this AM the gave me a price of $470 for the metal. Of course, there is finishing and blueing, etc. that will add to the cost.

@Nevada Mike

That my friend is a beautiful piece of wood!
Thanks! My brother cut that tree in Oregon about 25 years ago. The biggest thin shell walnut tree I have ever seen. Between that and other English walnut he has harvested over the years, well he has a basement full. So I called and said, "Dave, I need a blank for my .375!". This is what he came up with. I agree, and very nice blank.

Hopefully you post photos of the finished stock. Nice piece of wood..great layout.

The safari classic is a 3+1
I believe that the American safari is a 4+1 but as been a little bit since I last read about it so I maybe wrong.

+1 Great to deal with. I purchased custom rifle. No issues.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary

Booked with Harold Grinde - Gana River - they sure kill some good ones - who'd you get set up with?
