As soon as the reviewer mentioned he had tested the 180 grain Semi Spitzer I switched to watch that video. He was running them from a .30-06 22.4" barrel @ ~2,600 fps. I'm testing them from a 24" barrel @ just over 2,700 fps and easily staying under SAAMI max pressures. I'm headed out this morning to continue testing which load is most consistent.

Thanks for the post!

Great videos for what appears to be damn near perfect bullets. I really like that he shows how the bullet performs at 100 yards. As a side note, it also shows how bullet construction has more to do with penetration and how section density has very little to do with actual penetration as well.

These more modern bullet designs certainly change the old rules for sure.

i have found hornady cup-core flat tip or hollow point 300-350 gr bullets at 1900-2000 fps have been very good bullets for non dangerous game at a reasonable cost in a 95 marlin- ruger #3- new winchester high wall

I’ve been watching a lot of this guy’s videos the last few weeks. He’s done some really interesting tests. I like how he recognized the difference between standard bullets and a premium bullet like North Fork right away with the first test. I think that was with a 308.

Part 3

His follow-on video test of the 9.3mm Mauser 232 grain NF CPX bullet was pretty interesting.
He loaded them to 286 grain MVs, which I suppose is a useful test, but I would have liked to have seen them loaded to at least another 150 fps MV to give them a workout in the gel blocks.

Where can I get some loaded ammo?

Do any of the boutique loaders offer loaded ammunition with north fork? I don’t think I see it on henderhsots.

Thanks

for what its worth,

i think north fork softs are the best soft bullets. made right now. certainly in the class of the swift a frame, cutting edge and barnes.

i have used both barnes and north fork bullets for a long time and have pretty much switched from the X bullets to the north forks.

i have shot moose, deer, caribou with the barnes.

i have shot moose, caribou, brown bear, cape buffalo, and wildebeest with the north fork ss. the barnes bullets are great (they DO need to be pushed fast or don't open as well) i just feel the north forks are a tad better.

if you can get em, buy em and load em up, they will do anything a soft bullet is supposed to do.

We work on this matter. We cooperate with some customrealoaders for the moment. You can talk with Lonnie Cribb at Superiour Ammunition and he will make the caliber you need.

You can also get some loadings from Pendleton ammunition. At least in 300 win mag

I also know they make 375 H&H and are working up 458 Lott load.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
