I shot one with a fast moving 270 grain soft out of a 375 H&H through the ribs and it left a neat little hole. But hit a steinbuck too far back in a full little rumen and blew a huge hole with the same 375.

A PH who does a lot of small critter hunts told me to bring slow moving 220 grain softs for a 30-06... But I wanted faster moving 180 grainers for larger PG and then I found some round nose solids that were moving just as fast and regulated very close so took them.... Yea they tended to tumble and make some pretty big holes. Got lucky on a klipspringer and hit between the ribs and neat little hole. But cut a couple vervet monkeys in half. I had previously tried my 6.5 creedmoor and it vaporized about half the monkey. Explained to me as hydro-static shock effect.

Finally shot a nice male monkey with a 12 gauge and 4 shot. Worked very well... Same effect on porcupine, the round nose solid split the guts open, shotgun at about 40 yards worked well... Up close it busted up quills.

I wouldnt be too worried about the 168ttsx, if it is possible and you place the shot behind the shoulder, you will be fine and i doubt you will have too much damage.
I shot a bunch of smaller game with a 300wm and 180/200gr A-Frames. The exit hole was not very large and the animals all died pretty quickly.
My personal opinion would be not to worry about trying to use a combination of softs and solids on the same hunt. go with the 168ttsx, it will be fine.

You could also try a varmint bullet. I think the 110 gr vmax might work. Should fragment pretty quick. If possible a head on shot into the chest shouldn’t exit.
I haven’t used them in the 308 variety but have used them in 243, 223 and 204. They are a bit more solid I think than the varmegeddon. They work well on coyote sized game. Too powerful for fox though. Suggest downloading 243 and above though.

I was suggested by another guy to use a downloaded cup and core bullet in larger calibers. If you hit something solid it may make a mess. If not it shouldn’t expand much on exit. I believe velocity was around 1800 FPS.
