Anyone have a source for either of these, it's been months and I cannot get either. I plan on some 9.3x62 loading, these would have been my go to powders. I do have other powders I can use but would like to start out with my first choice.

Based in Michigan but willing to buy anywhere in the US and pay shipping and hazmat fee.

Many thanks

I've only seen varget once in the last 30 months, a couple weeks ago. It was $600 for a keg.

Alliant PowerPro 2000MR is a great powder for 9.3x62, so is Ramshot Big Game. They both do better with 286 gr than 250 gr. They seem to work better under a bit higher pressure. I've used them both, found them to be about the same.

Though I've never used it for 9.3x62, I'm guessing CFE223 would work well also. @Bob Nelson 35Whelen swears by it for his 35W.

You literally need to spend 30-45min 2x a day checking all the big suppliers inventory. Varget popped on 2 sites last week and Rdlr17 has been available at least 2x a month for the last 3mo. It's a pain but you won't be paying GunBroker's over-inflated prices. If you need a list of whom to check, DM me.

I saw 5 or 6 1-pound kegs of Varget in a store in Alaska two weeks ago. So it is showing up but you have to keep a sharp eye out. I've learned what days the local shops get their powders in and either call or stop by on those days since shipping it here is not possible. Picked up a pound of Hunter a couple days ago.

i have recently loaded my 9.3x62 with cfe223, but have not shot them yet so can't definitively give you a positive report on that.

Varget is almost identical in burn rate to 4895, not sure but i think imr 4895. i used to load a 17 rem with both interchangeably. good luck in your search

@dirthawker
Varget is a lot a lower than 4895 and no where identical.
If you used the same charge of 4198 as varget you may get a lesson in how to dismantle a rifle without tools.
DONT INTERCHANGE THEM THEY AREN'T IDENTICAL.

Bob,

i have a pretty good memory for such things, and i remember loading a 17 rem and that the powders were nearly identical, THEY ARE NOT! and you are RIGHT. i clearly mis remembered! i went to my older reloader manuals figuring that was where i saw it, and...could not find the data i remembered. good catch! thanks for the correction.

@UpNorthMI, my apologies, bob is right, they are NOT identical (but VARGET is a listed powder for the 9.3x62)

guess i am gonna have to actually read the data before i open my mouth again re: load data!

Dont discount IMR4064. My most accurate loads with this round used full charges of it at least with 250 gr Barnes and Noslers, which are the bullets I prefer for PG.
Both Varget and R15 are very good choices as well.

IMR 4064 is a very versatile powder. I’ve had great luck with it in 7x57 and .325. I haven’t tried it in my 9.3x62, good thought though.

I was pinged a couple of weeks ago by the shooting bot crawler service and ordered up some Varget directly from Hodgdon. Can't remember where I got the RL-15 about the same time.

Now what I've got the radar out on is H4895...

Varget is made in Australia by ADI Australian defense Industries sold in Aust as AR2208, in US as Varget, its burning rate equivalent is IMR 4064 & Accurate Arms 2520 but please check your self. Go to the ADI Webb sight its a wealth of info.

Definitely be careful with substitutions. The Western Powders burn chart shows Varget, AR2208, and IMR 4895 on the same line, and shows IMR4064 as slower.

In my search for substitute powders for the 9.3x62 I found that Vihtavouri powders are working well.

With 250 Accubonds N140 gave the same velocity as Varget with the same powder charge with better accuracy.

With 286 Partitions N140, N150 and N540 were all good.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
