hey guys I am wanting to go to RSA next year and I am interested in SCI gold spiral horned critters and a sable is this do-able? or am I living in a dream world? If you guys think it is a reachable goal how do I work this out and who are the go to guys for such a trophy only hunt? Yes I know it may cost more. would 2 weeks be long enough to kill 5-7 big guys? If they allow buffalo shipping again I would take one if it was big also and opportunity was there. I have talked to the Stone brothers as I see they have lots in SCI book anyone know of them? Please don't pick at me for being a trophy hunter only I have gray hair and have killed lots of stuff just no interest anymore in pulling trigger if it isn't a trophy class animal.

Just be a little careful with the "trophy only" deal. You could end up on a relatively small South African game farm where your "trophies" were placed there for your shooting pleasure. You can do that in Texas. I am a trophy hunter as well - but with an emphasis on the "hunter" portion of that descriptor. Gold medal trophies are a real possibility across much of Namibia and the RSA, and many can be pursued in wilderness, low fence, or vast fenced properties where you aren't paying to shoot a particular animal placed there for your benefit.

Thanks for the info, I thought the major airlines were still not flying any big 5 trophies? had a recent nightmare with delta aircargo getting trophies back from new Zealand at one point delta lost them in ATL!

Nightmares can happen when you ship anything. Sadly enough.

There are many ways to get your trophies home.
Ask Rob our local import specialist and he'll let you know.

Gold Medal trophies on a number animals on properties that are large enough to be fair chase and not stocked so heavily they resemble a west Texas feedlot would be pretty difficult on one hunt.

My guess is you would need to hunt a number of different properties to pull it off. It would be a great accomplishment.

I have often advised using a consultant. I used Jack Atcheson Jr. http://www.atcheson.com/ on my first African hunt and have used him ever since. His job is to marry your schedule, budget, and desires with the best possible outfitter. I have used him for every subsequent safari. There are others. A phone call to him would be one of the cheapest investments you could possibly make.

Also, be realistic in your goals. In safaris in Namibia (3), RSA (1), and Mozambique (1) I have taken gold medal springbok, kudu, waterbuck, eland, and oryx. However, virtually all of my trophies are older animals - that age issue being far more important to me than mere inches. And all were fair chase. My largest cape buffalo is "only" a bronze. But he is an ancient beast with a 42 inch spread. He was shot in the Caprivi without a fence within 500 kms. That is a first class trophy anywhere. It is sort of like the difference between a 185" four-year-old whitetail and a 165" seven-year-old.

He should be able to deliver everything from shoot and stack operations in the RSA to true wilderness hunts in Tanzania or Mozambique. Indeed, he should have no fiduciary interest whatsoever in any particular property. His job is to recommend the best possible experience for your investment. thanks for tip on booking agents but unlike you red leg I have had some interesting times with them as some of them are "special" and only care about where the biggest cut aka commision is for them and some are good. like all things.
Issues with atcheson's long ago. sorry red leg no offense to you meant. tough to sort them out too and just adds one more layer to try and sort out who is who, so no booking consultants for me any more.

My only concern would be that you would have to drive all over the country in order to make it happen. I mean many outfitters have concessions all over the place. But the amount of time spent driving could be a bit of a buzz kill. I think when look at the spiral horns, you need to think about if you want Southern Greater Kudu or Eastern Cape Kudu, or Cape Bushbuck or Limpopo Bushbuck. I do think 14 hunting days should be enough. I think if you were willing to shoot bronze or silver class, it would definitely be accomplishable and might not have you driving quite as much.

The other thing is there are plenty and I mean plenty of Outfitters and PHs who have advertised Sable hunts on here and the prices has been more then reasonable. I would do a quick search and reach out to a couple. It might be a situation where you hunt 7 days with one outfitter and then 7 days with another. There is a ton of options but this is the right place to look.

Just don't look at the score for SCI on cape buffalo. Just ignore how they score them....you can find a nice cape buffalo hunt around the Krueger Park area. Take a old warrior, with big bosses.

Buck, welcome and feel at home, you're among many "trophy hunters".

You are setting a tall order here but yes it's possible. Like others have said, you are not going to do this hunting all free range animals in wide open spaces. People have spent a lifetime hunting all over Africa and not taken that many gold medal animals.

You also don't want to spend your trip shooting tame animals eating out of feed troughs five minutes after being turned out of a cage either.

If you want something in between though offering you a good chance at very nice trophies from multiple species all in your 10 day time frame it is indeed doable.
