Selling Rifle on Web Site

If you sell a rifle on this web site how do you go about making the exchange between the two parties. I have bought rifles locally by just exchanging money with the individual. Don't know if you can do that across different states. Have a few I would like to sell.

Exchange of a rifle person to person can be done easily. Shipping a firearm must be done between licensed FFL dealers, and they will do the required background checks usually for a small handling fee and the freight. Certain states and municipalities have rules about firearms but the dealers know those rules. You may also be able to contact an auction house for a bulk sale, and also Cabelas. Good luck with your sales.

Go to the classified ads, scan through and see how others have posted guns for sale. Generally you receive the money before you have FedEx send the rifle to their FFL. If they want to send you a check, you hold the gun until the check clears your bank.

There really is no wrong way as long as you are sending the gun to a FFL holder.

You can always do that. But if you are selling large bore rifles, you have a much larger group of potential buyers right here from all over the U.S. Its all your choice! After you have done it once, it is easy and works well.

We have gun shows here where I think you can sell them. It is just three calibers largest 338 Winchester

Easy to do Leonard, just transfer between FFL's. Have bought a few rifles this way, at least one on AH.

If you don't want any of the hassle go down to a gun store in your area or go to a large town and a gun shop where they do consignments. They will set the price of your firearm and when they sell the rifle they will charge you a percentage, around 15%. They do all the paperwork and selling.

I have done this a couple of times since the area that I live is quite small and the one gun shop that we have tries to rob you blind with their appraisals.

@lwaters Put them on here! It's really not that much of a hassle, really no different than selling anything else - you just have to ship it to an FFL instead of direct to the person. Gun shows usually charge you a fee to sell anything at their show, and gun shops like JimP pointed out will also take a good chunk of your money.

Plus, I like guns and always need a new one to annoy my wife!

If you buy a gun from any distance beyond face to face it will need to go through a FFL. It costs from $15 to 30 around here, although I have seen a couple asking 50 or more. Last gun I bought, I sent a check, and it took about 2 days to clear. Some guns take awhile to sell on here, and some are gone in a flash. It depends on who is looking, and maybe how long it takes to rustle up the money. Doesn't cost any money to try.

In fact, if you buy two or more firearms at one time, the dealer has a form to send into the ATF&E

I live in the Worker's Paradise of New YORK, ruled by Comrade Cuomo (who never met a gun law he didn't like). For firearms dealers, there are federal, state, and regional laws that must be followed. These dealers get visited by ATF with NYPD accompanying them. It's not easy here.
In Suffolk, Nassau, NYC, the dealers must maintain duplicate books (Fed and county).
It's a pain.
Anyway, sell off one of the websites and go through a dealer. You're protecting yourself.

In Virginia and Pennsylvania, you will need to fill out the paperwork and pay for the State Police background check for a new gun.
