Last April I took my first safari in South Africa. My outfitter was African Sky Safaris. I wanted to post an interesting photo that my son took that later proved to be priceless. We had just arrived in the vicinity of our hunting lodge on the Elands river . The kudu in the foreground seemed so grand to my son that he asked our PH Hennie to stop the truck and let him get a picture. Three days later we encountered the bull again when my Ruger 300 Win Mag was in my hand. My shot was taken off the sticks and the 180 grain Winchester Ballistic Silver Tip struck both lungs and the heart at just over 150 yards. The bull ran all of 8 yards and dropped. He turned out to be very nice at 54 1/4 inches.

The second photo is him on my hall wall after Capricorn Taxidermy finished their work and shipped him to Kansas! He is an everyday reminder of a wonderful trip and great memories to share for many years to come!

Very good bull Austin......did you get another trophies in that trip I guess......can we see some more of that hunt.......Was the operation that you expected.......??

Thank´s.....!!!!!

Gorgeous kudu and perfect mount.

Rocket the operation was everything I had hoped for and more. Ihighly recommend African Sky. I got five animals and so did my son! Here is my Blue Wildebeest. My wife wen with me also and she is pictured her putting on a show for the camera.

This fellow presented a difficult shot through brush at almost 200 yards. He was quartering with his head turned back to look at me so I was aiming for his far shoulder.
RedLeg I have been very pleased with the work Mike Smith at Capricorn has done for me! Thank you for the comments.

Stop and take every picture you can. You never know when it will add to the story.

Thanks for sharing that moment with us.
Very nice trophy. Congrats.

Thank you Brickburn.

Blesbock were all over the biggest concession we hunted and I finally got one to stand still for ten seconds. Ten seconds was all it took. I found the color of these animals to be amazing.

Austin, thank you for add more pictures and the commets about the operation......very good trophies an Blesbuk looks longer than ussual we see.......and Blue W looks as pretty old boy.........!!!!!!

Well done......!!!!!!

Rocket the Blesbock was 17 inches and yes the Blue Wildebeest was old. The younger bulls had pushed him out. He was standing fifty or so yards away from the rest of the herd. That animal took the shot well back on the right side slicing two ribs, it nicked his right lung, cut the heart in half, and blew up the left lung, passed through the shoulder bone to just under the skin on his left shoulder. Then he ran 3/4 of a mile. Our tracker skinner Jacobe was impressed with the animal and mad at me about the heart as he was going to eat it.

One of my greatest joys during this particular hunt was watching my son take his first African trophy! I have said it before and I will say it again, I got more smiles out of the young man during the seven day hunt than in the previous couple of years. See the proof below.

I like to much see fathers and sons hunting together.....my soul is happy when I see that situations......make me go back in the time and makes me remember when I use to hunt with my father..........Thank you Austin......and that Impala horns shape is the way a Impala trophie should be........perfect.........!!!!!!

Thank you Rocket. I too very much love father son hunts. The impala was 22 inches.....not bad at all.

All of them very good trophies !

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
