South Africa animals not contained by high fence

Comparing South Africa as a whole and saying animals are more alert than a wild concession area in a different country is a ridiculous comparison. A concession area is maybe 100k acres, it has the same species throughout, and generally consistent use pressure (human activity, hunting, poaching, fishing, etc) throughout the concession. The same 100k acres in South Africa would be at least 10 high fenced farms, maybe 20 with some different species on each and a different level of use (farming, hunting, etc) on each farm. The wildlife on each farm has the ability to be very different from the adjacent farm. Some farms I’ve seen in South Africa have been very wild hunting and others not so much. South Africa is also a very big country and intense game farming more prevalent in certain areas than others.
I don’t think I said anything like that. I spoke about two hunts. The number of acres we hunted was i think 95000.

I hunted fenced and unfenced or low fenced areas in Namibia.
No issue for me.

What I noticed with gemsbok, oryx, they dont like jumping. They try to push through low fence, pull head, then get stuck on belly, then push again, then pass.

I hunted a place in Namibia that had low cattle fence, but every hundred yards they had only the top wire, the rest was removed for the wildlife.

Gemsbok and Black Wildebeest knew where those holes were and hit them at full tilt. was impressive to watch

Interesting. Why do you say that?
The animals on an African game ranch are hunted frequently. They are not stupid and know what the game is about. I hunted on a farm in Namibia in 2019. The animals, oryx, impala, etc were remarkably docile. Ok, it wasn’t a walk in the park but I remarked to the PH my observations.
His reply was that the owners only meat hunted on the farm and we were the first paying guests. The drought at the time had made it a necessity to reduce the wildlife for their own well-being. Water wasn’t the problem. It was the lack of rain.

The animals on certain game ranches are hunted frequently. Putting all game ranches in same category is overlooking a lot. They are all managed differently and the game on each one will act differently. Some are managed to be wild, some are managed for maximum populations and supplemented with feed, some are breeding trophies, some are primarily for tourists. There isn’t one game ranch.

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
