I've just returned from a long awaited hunt with Abrie Arlow of PronkJag Hunting Safaris for a trophy Fallow Deer Stag, Abrie is without a doubt the absolute master in this field and has taken more trophy Stags with bow hunters than he has, with a great many world record class animals in the list. Abrie has become known for his ability to get his clients onto superior trophy animals, both exotics and endemic species.

I managed to take this stunning Stag on a rather cold and misty Freestate morning after a couple of hours of patterning the large herds movements, at 53 yards with my new 80# Elite Energy 35. A fleeting broadside opportunity was all I needed to put a shaving sharp 125gr Muzzy MX3 through the big Stag's heart, which piled up after a short 45 yard run.

For any and all enquiries relating to trophy Fallow Deer or a MULTITUDE of other species feel free to contact Abrie Arlow directly at:

congratulations ingozi hes a cracker head mate .
is it still pre rutt ,in the African herd of fallow ?

Hi bluey,

Thanks so much, yeah they are just about two weeks out of velvet, it should still be another couple weeks before the rut begins in all swing.

Congrats with a great buck.
Great to see one SA buck without split palms. So many of the Fallow bucks from SA I have seen had split palms.
I would be very happy to get one like yours with my bow.

Beautiful buck, congrats !

Do yourself a favour and contact Abrie Arlow, there is no man alive that has more knowledge or hunts more Fallow Deer over here than he does, he has taken some absolute monsters, which would put my Stag to shame. Really nice guys to work with too. Thanks for the kind words!

Congrats. That's a nice stag,

Most people will not be able to tell the difference between it and sheep/mutton, it is superb!

Thanks David! Abrie is quite a character but he always delivers, and has an astounding collection of contacts for any and all species. A real top notch operator.

I love eating Fallow deer. The same goes for Roe deer. I can eat meat from them every day of the week all year.
Good thing I still have lots in my chest freezer :)

This guy is going to hold us over quite some time, it yielded 43Kg of beautiful and healthy processed meat.

That's a whole lot of meat to get off one fallow deer , ingozi
He is a monster

Great buck and great shot. Congrats.

Thanks so much guys!

Nice deer. I had no idea there were pine trees in South Africa. I've never been but that landscape looks like parts of east Texas or Louisiana.

Yeah we have greatly diverse areas, from desolate open spaces that will more closely resemble Arizona to brush country like south Texas. Pine plantations sometimes has one feeling as one is sitting in a stand waiting on Whitetail to come cruising by!

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
