I've just returned from a second trip to Leopards Lair in Alldays under guidance of Juan Pace, Outfitter of Shangwari Safaris (Leopards' Lair / Shangwari Safaris). I had initially gone to see if I could connect with a 30"+ Waterbuck but did not manage to close the distance of any mature bulls. The area looked quite different from when I was last there in February and we saw a great many animals from Kudu, Waterbuck, Giraffe, Gemsbuck, Wildebeest, Zebra and a multitude of smaller antelope and mammals.

I was joined by hunting partner Andries Oosthuizen and decided to use a BB1 Bush Blind (pop up blind) made by Sadec Trade (Sadec Trade) and used by Juan Pace on this hunt which was set up on strategic places in the bush, where trails converge and the game was seen moving as walking on the dry leaf strewn ground wa making stalking impossible, even in just socks on our feet. So I decided to ambush animals along trails and stalking when the wind was strong enough to drown the sounds of us walking. As mentioned I didn't manage to take the Waterbuck I wanted, but I did have many oppertunities at Kudu, Gemsbuck, Warthog and Impala, the latter which I took three specimens, two for the freezer and one very good 26" ram after a slow stalk and a steep quatering away shot at 60 yards.

Equipment used on this trip was my Hoyt Maxxis 35 set at 28.5" & 93# shooting 540gr Gold Tip Big Game 100+ shafts and 100gr Muzzy 4-blade broadheads, Tightspot Quiver and Winners Choice Strings.

Thanks so much ND!

Wow, those are some impressive impalas!

Nice trophy and not too bad on those freezer bucks too. Thanks.

Thanks so much guys! They surely are good eating!

I have two Waterbuck bulls available. 29+ and 30+. Easy to approach with a bow.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
