I recently had the privilege to hunt on Slievyre Game Farm just outside of Estcourt in KZN, it is a mixed bushveld farm in excess of 3000 Ha, split evenly between bow hunting only and mixed rifle and bow hunting areas. I found the game to be very relaxed, even on the rifle hunting areas and bow hunters should have no trouble in getting their animals on foot if they proficient at walking and stalking, the guides on Slievyre are also absolutely great, they go above and beyond to help clients get their game. There are a vast number of well placed hides overlooking waterholes, salt blocks and feed but should clients wish to walk and stalk they are most welcome to, options are endless.
Most commonly found on Slievyre is Impala, Blesbuck (common and white), Blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Red Hartebeest, Waterbuck, Nyala, Kudu, Warthog and Eland. Although the veldt was still incredibly thick and lush green thanks to the heavy rains KZN has experienced the past few months, I did see quite a number of fantastic trophies amongst which were really bog Waterbuck, Kudu and Nyala. The available accommodation on Slievyre is also really superb, clients have a choice between the Bush Camp which has no electricity yet is extremely well laid out and truly comfortable, fully furnished and self catering cottages which have full electricity and DStv, lastly the main lodge which features all the creature comforts like a swimming pool, game room and lounge with DStv and crackling fireplace.
I was fortunate to take 6 animals during my weeklong visit, all except for one taken on foot which also points toward the approachability of the game on Slievyre, I had numerous opportunities at animals like Warthog, Zebra, Blue Wildebeest, Kudu and even played a long game of cat and mouse with a monster of a Waterbuck which simply proved again why he got so large. Slievyre is without a doubt a favourite destination in my book and I have already confirmed my date to return, Jacques, his son Louis and son in law Mark were superb hosts and had absolutely no complaints as they truly treated my wife and I like royalty. If you are looking for a great hunting destination where you can take the wife and kids along for a breakaway from the rat race, then look no further than Slievyre, a true gem hidden in the Midlands of KZN.

I'll bet the Blesbok Biltong is being made as we speak. :)

Glad to hear the area has had some good rains.

Thanks guys, yeah I kinda hunted them hard, but the owners wanted to cull a number of them.

Thanks for the report INGOZI and the Great Pics. Glad you guys had a great time.

Thanks so much Bob!

Nice white blesbok, in one of your pictures there looks to be a huge kudu. Thanks for the pictures and report!

It certainly was, the bull on the left is still young but has boatloads of potential, the bull on the right is a decent bull that I guess will go about 52" or so.

Thanks again.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
