So I have been in the early stages of planning my first trip to Africa. I have been watching a certain hunt that gets donated to my local chapter of SCI every year. I like what I have seen in there booth and what I see on there web page. I have met and talked with the owner of the outfitting business and have liked what I hear. Now the problem I am having is I have not been able to find anything about this operation on the internet or on the outfitter section on this forum. This has me a little nervous about booking with this operation, is this feeling warranted? I have hunted with small operations in the US and Canada that have no internet presence whatsoever. It feels a little different when I am spending $2000 to get to my hunting spot. I am planning on trying to track down the last few people who purchased the hunt off of the auction in the last years. Looking for any advise.

Track down the last few purchasers for a report and post the name of the outfit here. Maybe someone here knows of them

Cliffy is right we need a little more info to help you out. Where is the outfitter located and the name of the outfitter with that we can all look for info and try finding things for you as well. Bob

I am sorry I ment to include that (I'm using my phone and am haveing some trouble ha) the outfitter is Jan Kleynhans with Tusker Safaris in the Limpopo Province. Thanks.

Thanks Kal is this the outfit your talking about? Home Page

Thanks for the fast reply, glad to see I'm not the only one bored at work lol. That is the outtfitter I was talking about. They have been donating to us for over 5 years so they must be doing something right.

Can't seem to find anything bad and that is good you may want to check the PHASA web pages to see if they have anything as well if there a member of PHASA then they'd be a farely safe bet. Don't tell the boss he thinks I'm doing a Survey thats required. Just as a note I checked for you and the are full members of PHASA. Bob

I am glad there are rules on AH about posting hunting offers.
If someone can be unclear in their posting of details of a package, you have to wonder.
This 4S outfits page, no idea if it has anything to do with the Tusker side of things.

Since the OP was looking for info, these guys seemed to be in business as agents and might be able to provide further references from their hunters.

Thanks to everyone for the great responses, I am still not to sure about everything I am finding. They are offering a great package that is very tempting. I am still going to try and track down the last few people who have hunted with them. My favorite black bear outfitter is only done by word of mouth so Im not terrified but like I stated its different when you take $10k across the pond. I really appreciate everyone's help so far, that's the reason I have quickly become addicted to this web site lol.

Hey Kal we're not trying to scare you off but if all else fails let us know what animals your looking for I'm willing to bet someone here has it.

Is everything an appropriate answer?:laughing:

 yep we may have to team up for this one thow.

I have not heard about the outfitter, so I don't know if it is great, good or bad.
But personally I would stay away from something I had problems to get plenty of information about. Specially when spending around 10k or more.

There are plenty of great and serious outfitters that you can get lots of information about and many of them are members of this forum and would be my choice when traveling that far and spending that much money on a hunt.

Kal,

Personally I would suggest you give Jan a fair chance and ask him to send you references on who has hunted with their company. If you do not hear back from him in time I would suggest to have a look at other outfitters that will be able to suite your safari needs. There is a lot of reputable and very good outfitters on this website that will be more than happy to help you put together a safari and make sure you have a good time and make sure ALL of your animals are trophies. ;)

If there is anything we can help with on the forum please feel free to ask questions at anytime.

Best regards,

Jacques

I know Jan personally. He is a long member of our Professional Hunters Association and attends the AGM very year. He is probably one of the honest guys I ever met . Jannhas been in the hunting Industry for many years on conducts a clean professional outfit . You will have a good hunt with him.

Thank you so much to everyone for the outpouring of information and opinions. Our banquet is next weekend so I am hoping they will have a booth this year. We like to buy our hunts off of the auction, on the African hunts we save a lot of money on the hunt because the daily rate is waved as part of the deal. This helps us justify more money towards trophy fees. Thanks everyone for all the advise, hopefully I can track down a few people who have previously hunted with them.

This forum has the best group of helpful hunters and outfitters on the web...bar none. Proud to be a member! Just needed to state that. Best of luck Kal!

This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.

Have twice tried to post something that your site canned as "SPAM" or some problem.. "Contact the Administrator"... Not sure why even the "Contact" button would not send my comment so you only received my query but not the content in question. I'll see if I can get it to you this way... NOPE I use a VPN and perhaps that is causing me grief...
