Taking the 375 for Florida hogs

headed down for our a annual hog, varmint , predator hunt with the h&h and have loaded 235 tsx’s to 2900fps. This is to stop any runners . Typically we strive for head shots but if they are anywhere past 75 hards i’m going to thump the shoulder, optics are 1-4 leupold . I expect this to hammer them. I built these with the intent of shooting no more than 200 yards. I will report back with results. Also loaded some 55 gmx’s in my single shot .223 for predators and varmints. Cant wait!

If it were not for some medical difficulties I would be in Florida right now either fishing, golfing or piggy murdering.

There is a you tube video where a pig hunting guide in Florida tells people that the 375 HH is what should be used to kill piggies. He then shoots one that runs off and is later found. He goes into a dissertation about how tough the oinkers are and how dangerous they be.

A few of us have leased some property and set up some feeders and shoot pigs aplenty.

I use a 223, 22 lr, or a 6.5 Grendel and have enjoyed hundreds of quick kills.

I also go to Texas every year to murder scads of marauding piggies and have even used my 458 Socom with night vision, but if you want to keep meat the destruction is great so plan on just keeping hams or leave them lay for buzzards and such.

In either place I don't believe that I've ever killed one over ,150 pounds.

When I go after meat I look for ones 50 pounds or less as once males start mating their meat can get nasty and I only take head shots.

One of the outfits is HogSWAT in Albany, GA https://hogswat.com/
They supply you with their firearms that are equipped with thermal scopes and hunt at night.
I believe they use 223 and 308 but will allow you to bring your own rifle.
Thing is they do ALL of their hunting at night, so thermal or some type of NV scope will be needed.
Let us know how your hunt goes.
I have a 375 and would like to see the performance you get on the piggies.

Would also be quite effective on those coyote, if not just a wee bit of overkill.

Both the 235 Barnes TSX & 235 Speer are very accurate in my rifles. I talked to a guy at Speer who said their 235 SP works well on Africa PG. I may take some with me this year to try.

So our first of four shift in the woods and the boy and i each nailed 100 pound sows. Jr shot two rabbits with his golden boy, then the hogs came in.all at 75 yards. I hit one sow and 10 minutes later they were back, i handed jr the model 70 and he looked at me and said “for real” i nodded my head and he let the big h&h fly. Neck shot. Perfect. The 235 barnes made a tiny entrance and not much more of an exit on the one that didnt hit bone. . Both pigs went right down. After gutting them the heart was exploded on one , the other i put right on the shoulder and that was a bone crusher. Very pleased with the 235 tsx at these ranges. (200 or less) tommorrow morning were gonna try to call in some yotes . The guides killed a bunch this weekend and echoed a member here with “ there is never too much gun for coyote” . More h&h work.

Used 120gr 300 Blackout on three we killed about 18 months ago in FL. None were very big with all weighing in around 100lbs. Shooting from a blind with a 1-6x scope, punching them ear to ear put them down quick. Wife wasn't too impressed. Said I shot Wilbur, but he tasted good.

I was looking on the Speer website at the 235 gr Hot-Cor bullet.
It looks like a cup and core type bullet where the lead is not bonded to the jacket, where the Barnes TSX is solid copper.
I would think comparing the Speer 235 Hot-Cor to the Barnes 235 TSX would be night and day when it comes to performance on game.
Wondering how you feel about this?

BeeMaa, I didn’t mean to imply the Barnes 235 and Speer 235 were even in the same league. I just thought the Speer might work on steenbuck to impala and warthog. I had just asked the Speer CS what they were typically used for and he wrote that many (who ever that is) used them on Africa plains game.
To date I have mainly used Barnes on most of my Africa game. 300 and 250 bullets. I will be stepping down another notch to 235 Barnes for my upcoming lion hunt as suggested by my PH. I thought since the 235 Speer shoots very close to the same POI as the Barnes, I might take some to try on lesser PG.
Example: the 300 and 250 Barnes were not destructive enough on jackal, so I need something a bit softer. At 3,000+FPS there may not be anything left of a jackal though.
I’ve tried solids (Hornady) and the shot placement is extremely critical on jackal in deep cover. The DGS did work well on a duiker though.

I know you well enough that I was pretty sure you were heading in that direction, but I don't like making assumptions.
Also, in case someone else were to read that and think that the bullets were of the same construction...not good.
So that said, these bullets you are taking are reloaded...is there enough of a price difference that it's worth taking two kinds of bullets?

You should look for a .375 caliber, 235 gr solid for those jackal...clean in and out.

Nice piggies congrats! To take overkill to the next level here's a hog I shot several 7ears ago at 8 feet in the brush (shot him between the eyes, 570g TSX exited out of his ham) with my son using my 500 Jeffery ...
