Hello all, I am very excited to announce that the Rockin G Ranch is in on the ground level of a five year Texas Panhandle Mule Deer study. As many know I work closely with Texas Parks and Wildlife with my ranch and we had the honor to be part of this study. We captured random samples from the deer herd on the ranch and fitted them with radio collars to monitor and study Mule deer movement. We also took DNA samples, did sonograms to monitor body condition and over all health. We sampled bucks, does, and fawns. All deer were aged and released. 54 deer were captured in two days. Here are some pictures of the operation.

Very cool Erik. That last buck has promise. That last pic, is that your new tank?

Yes sir thats the back side of the new dam. After the first dam blew out we raised it about 8 feet and widened it 3 times that at the bottom. We still have work to do on it but it got about 4 foot of water in it day before yesterday with the rain. Only about 30 more feet to go and it will be full lmfao!

That buck will definitely be a stud in a couple of years!

What that last picture doesnt show is me falling over backwards on my a$$. After we did the deer version of alien abduction on that buck he was pretty stressed out. When we let him up he was panicked and started a panic run in every direction, the last direction was directly at me. I tried to back up in a hurry and slipped falling right on my butt as the deer hurdled over the top of me. Its probably good that I fell otherwise he would have been wearing me as a hood ornament!

Well, the overall operation and project anyway, not the falling on your butt;)

Sorry I couldn't be at the ranch for the study, had to go scout the new place. That buck is a great representation of what our great genetics, our management program and patience can get you. Another 3 years and he'll be there. I'm so honored to be a small part of what you're doing at the Rocking G

Thank you for all that you do for us Justin. For those of you that haven't had the oppurtunity to meet him yet Justin guides for me a lot and has his own outfitting operation. He's the best mule deer outfitter in the panhandle of Texas.

Good looking deer there my friend.

Thanks, we work very hard to improve our herd and let people benefit from the studies we do. I hope one day Texas will have the strongest mule deer herd in the country.

I love research, I'm glad you are taking care of those beautiful mule deer.

Hey buddy great work for sure. Now......once you see a mulie about 180 inches CALL ME! lol.

Johnny we see those every year. About a week after Muley season closes.

Story of my life!! LOL
You and me both brother. Mule deer rut a lot later than whitetail and our Muley season is only 3 weeks long (rifle) as opposed to whitetail season which is 4 months long. Come end of January all the way through first of March there are huuge mule deer everywhere. I have no idea where they hide the rest of the year. That's what is so great about this study, we'll get to answer questions like that.

Guess your like most places then...Just have to be lucky during the season. Anyway it's good to know. I don't have a good mulie yet.....

Hey brother how'd you fair with all the rain?

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
