My Wife and I are in Shreveport La for a couple of months working. We're running a retirement sale for a jewelry store here. Did the same with our store last year. I arrived here earlier this month. Been very busy. Got a day off last Thur and spent a good part of the day checking out the fishing around town. Lots of lakes streams and the Red river to fish in locally.
I met several locals who took me in under their wings to show me what they were doing to catch fish. I gaffed a 20 lb catfish for one fellow and learned a lot of what he was doing. We were closed today so I decided to fish some this morning. Rained overnight with a on and off drizzle as I drove out. Temps were low 60's, a real treat from Wyoming's cold. Only one other fellow fishing near where I wanted to be. He fished perhaps another hour and left after I arrived.
On my 4th cast I hooked up as I started to retrieve it back. After a decent fight I landed a catfish of perhaps 8-9 lbs. Good start to the morning. I took a few minutes taking care of that one and went back to fishing. Missed a bite 2 casts later. Then I hooked up the next cast. This one took a while to land. When I got it to the bank I knew it was over 30. In the back of my mind I wondered if he was over 40 lbs.....
I missed a couple of other bites and then realized time had slipped away and I wanted to get a weight on that fish. Dennis, my mentor at this location told me he had a scale so I headed over to his place. The bass pro scale went to 100 lbs. The fish pulled it almost halfway down to 42 lbs. By far my biggest catfish to date. My best before was perhaps 16 or so. Pics from the phone attached next. Made for a great Thanksgiving day for me.
