Roping rhinos in Africa of the 40's and 50's. Back then no tranquilizers.
Not for sissies, only lasso and trucks!

[I found this interesting story -does anyone have more information on it?]
Simon Leach of Traditional Mozambique Safaris shared this vintage photo of the leopard that killed his great great grandfather.
The skin is presently at the museum in the Kruger National Park, the place he worked for and loved so much.

Donald Ker, an Englishman living at Gilku, in Northern Nigeria, introduced the motorcycle as a mount for his hunting trips in the Sudan 1945. Seen here with a leopard on his 'hunting ' vehicle!

all-time world record kudu

This all-time world record kudu was picked up by the late Italian hunter Carlo Caldesi. He found this head while hunting in Mozambique with the safari company of the late Baron Werner von Alvensleben. The head was picked up in 1963 near the Save River. Carlo Caldesi won the Weatherby Big Game Award in 1981, the first Italian hunter ever to do so, for his outstanding accomplishments as a hunter of international repute. The kudu is listed in Rowland Ward with a longer horn measurement of 73 7/8 and a shorter horn measurement of 71 5/8. This is the ONLY known kudu that has ever been measured with horns of over 70 inches. This head outdoes every heads ever recorded by Rowland Ward, and it is one of the greatest trophies ever to come out of Africa.

Hunting in Rhodesia

a golden oldy of a beautiful place..
Hunting in Rhodesia. From a 1970 Rhodesian government tourism board sponsored magazine, in a country where hunting was an integrating and completely accepted part of tourism, a tradition and a mainstay of the people.

Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.

Have twice tried to post something that your site canned as "SPAM" or some problem.. "Contact the Administrator"... Not sure why even the "Contact" button would not send my comment so you only received my query but not the content in question. I'll see if I can get it to you this way... NOPE I use a VPN and perhaps that is causing me grief...
