ZIMBABWE: Stunning Hunt With Halsted Safaris In The Zambezi Valley Nyakasanga Section

Dear All

Just back from a stunning hunt with Halsted Safaris in the Zambezi Valley, West of Mana Pools in the Nyakasanga area, Hurungwe Safari Section.
We were in the area during July, with great weather and lots of Game. Our PH was Paulilo Halsted, a young energetic 4th generation Zimbabwean, literally taking the bull by the horns and living his dream in the often turbulent country. He is a prime example of the new generation of Zimbabweans who in the face of shortages of everything imaginable( from cash to food) are making a stand for ETHICAL Big Game Hunting in a fantastic area. We had our fair share of nightly visitors from a pride of lion, to ele and heyna!!! Truly wild African bush
We were a party of 6, hunters with a few observers, using 416 Rem, 450/400 Rigby, 375 H&H, 300 WM and Paulilo using his own stunning Italian 500 Jeffrey for back up.
Our bag included Tuskless Ele, 2 x Buf, Impala, Warthog, hyena, kudu, eland. We hunted with Paulilo's Landcruiser, completely fitted out for proper hunting in a vast 280 000ha area. Not a single rattle was heard over the long dusty roads. His tracking team, Albino and Dennis were up to scratch and the cook , Rosa, was the best in the business. We took all our game on foot. Buf were taken after tracking for up to 16 - 20km per day, resulting in proper amazing short range shots in the thick Jess ( Valley Speciality )
Our pre and after hunt arrangements were handled professionally and with minimal fuss.
A very memorable and professional hunt.

That buffalo is really good. Congratulations.

Great looking buff--the kind we all would like to hunt/take. Sounds like a wonderful area.

It is really still a great area, actually the whole of the Zambezi Valley is still great, our area is called Nyakasanga Safari Area, west of Mana Pools National Park, to the East is Sapi, Chewore and Dande, all very nice areas, free and wild. Lots of Tsetse, keeping domestic animals at bay!! Only wild life and no people. Some more pics on a recent post as well

I can only assume that you are part of the Rugby playing/ horse riding Halsteds.. Bulawayo, if memory serves me well.
I used to compete, as a teenager, against a Halsted girl in show jumping in the old Rhodesia, late 60's.
Years later I shared a Transkei holiday at Umgazi River Mouth with the then Rhodesian front row player, Rob Halsted. We had some great fishing experiences together... As well as having to jump overboard when our ski boat steering broke in the massive waves while going out to sea.. Rob and I kept the boats nose into the waves and managed to get all back to the safety of the shore without mishap.
I reckon this was. In 1979/80..
I know that hunting area quite well.. Need to get back there sometime before its too late...

Awesome. We hunted Dande with Len Taylor (CMS) last year. It’s an amazing part of the world. We intend to hunt Nyakasanga next trip over. The old dugga boys being taken there are truly special.

Nope, not a Halstedt sadly, but have been hunting with Paulilo the last few years, see also my post Zambezi Valley -- Shit Hot!! I started hunting Nyakasanga, Sapi, Chewore in the early 90's during the days of the Zim Park Auctions, held in Feb of each year. Those were fantastic times.
The Valley has always delivered for us during the last 30 odd years. I have hunted most of Africa where there is Buf to be had, but Valley still special

Paulilo just foned me from Zim.. He is Rob's nephew.. So my mate Rob the rugby player was his uncle. Rob sadly passed away.. The horse riding sister is Rob's sister (Kotcha)..
Waiting for a, quote from Paulilo now... Sure this is a BLAST FROM THE PAST!!

Hunted there in Sept 2018 and it was truly a wild place. What I hoped to still find in Africa, the old world experience!

I was hunting with Buzz, from another camp, and we ran into another party hunting there and we had a very enjoyed lunch with Paulilo and 3 Americans(father and two sons)

I had dreamt of hunting the Zambezi Valley for 10 years. And it did not disappoint!!

Wow!! That's just two superb buffalo!! (y)

Looks and sounds like a really great Place to hunt! Congrats for the Trophys and a stunning experience. Would really like to try it sometime. Thanks for sharing.
/Pelle.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.
