I just had to share my excitement :E Dancing:

Ever since buying a box of heavily clearanced 375 shells (for no particular reason other than they make me smile every time I open it) I've been looking for a bargain priced "just because" rifle.

I just won (aka bought) an excellent condition Winchester Super Express off gunbroker for $800. It's never had a scope on it as far as I can tell. On the floorplate it is engraved "SCI 25th anniversary 1-200"

I've held one before, it pointed great, and I love the iron sights.

My plan is just to shoot the irons due to the hefty weight. I have taken more game with irons than I have scopes so this will feel right at home.

:E Celebrate:

Congrats! Let's see some pics!

I was really eyeballing the Browning X-bolt hunter but they don't quite look as tradition. I might go down that road though if I ever wanted a scoped 375

Very nice, congrats!

Nice rifle at a good price, congrats!!

Great buy!

I like how you bought cartridges and then looked for a rifle to fit.
Not sure I could slip a box of 416's past the financial goalie, or the rifle for that matter.

Congrats on the new addition.

Sounds like a great pick up. Congrats!

Wow what a deal!!!!!!!!Congratulations!

Yes- very nice! That looks like a mid to late New Haven CRF gun which IMO is the best of Winchester M 70s. Has original Win 70s trigger and IIRC has groove on right lug that slides on right rail as an anti-bind feature. Should cycle slicker than greased owl poo!

SCI 25th year would be 1998. I'm hoping Winchester may have did a little extra (ie not a 6 pound trigger) for this special run. My dad's model 70 from the mid-80's is a great gun but the trigger leaves a bit to be desired.

The Win M70 triggers of original design are possibly the best, most reliable ever designed for a hard use hunting rifle. They are very easy to adjust but need to be done correctly. Find someone who knows M70 triggers. You'll need a couple of very small and thin open end wrenches and a small screw driver. Shouldn't have any trouble setting to a consistent 3-4 lb crisp let off.

That is a pretty piece and a great buy. It says 1-200. Is yours # 1 or what number are you in the series?

WOW! You did great! Windy triggers were easy to adjust and all I’ve done were smooth as glass. You got a real winner!
