I hunted the Hartman’s Zebra last year in April. It was a fantastic hunt! I loved the Khomas Hochland. It was vast! Who did you hunt with? What rifle and caliber? Can you describe the stalk? Beautiful trophy!!
@gesch to be honest, I was getting quite frustrated on my hunt. I had gone with a group and everyone was having tremendous luck but myself. I had gone with 3 target animals in mind. I wanted a kudu above all else, then a zebra and lastly a warthog. For 5 days all I got was a couple guineas, sand grouse and a jackal, all with my bow. I was feeling fairly downtrodden to have gone all that way and not much to show for it. I was beginning to wonder if I would ever have luck in my favour. My PH was also feeling bad for me. We just were not seeing any of the animals I wanted. A group of eland cows came in and he asked if I wanted one. I passed, despite wanting to come into camp with something. A few minutes later the mountain zebra herd came in. I swt my sights on the stallion. Only issue was, they were out of bow range for me. It would not have been ethical for me to make a long shot and risk wounding him. My PH, Anton Esterhuizen, slid me his .375. I can’t remember the make of his rifle. I settled in on the triangle on the stallion’s shoulder and took the shot. He took 4 steps and expired. My legs were shaking so badly from adrenaline that Anton had to help me over to the zebra! It was an incredible feeling and one I will never forget!
@Jeanette Hall, I know that dejected feeling too!! 120% effort for no gain. I once went 5 days after a particular kudu - where everything went wrong - but nailed him.in the last 30mins of the hunt!! On another occaison I went 10days after buffalo - and went home empty-handed. But no matter what keep pushing yourself and - just as you did - adapt to maximise your opportunities!! Congrats on some well hunted trophies that will ever be great memories!! (Nice to see a lady in the game too!)
