Stock wetted to raise the grain

Looks great! My friend Brian Hearne at Hearne's Hardwoods showed me this trick. Years ago, I used rotten stone to finish a stock. Does anyone still use that or are there better, more modern materials? Always enjoyed and learned from your posts. Thank you for showing your works. Hog

@Hogpatrol I have rotten stone but dont use it now as the finish I changed to a few years back is a brush on liberally, wait 20 minutes and wipe off so there is not the surface build up that needs "cutting" back with the rotten stone. My finish is a equal parts refined BLO, Tung oil, spar varnish and veg turps (gum spirits). The thinned mix is drawn into the wood and wiped off and when dried is a good moisture barrier and still has the hand rubbed oil finish look, feel, durability and fixability.
