A former taxidermy curator at the Powell-Cotton Museum in UK is a friend of mine. He worked on a project to compare the DNA from some of the big sable in far Western Zambia with Powell-Cotton's Royal Sable taken in Angola that was mounted in the museum. There were common DNA threads, which explains why there was a 49.5-inch skull taken by a hunter who preceded my safari in that part of Zambia one year (very close to the Angola border). We took a 44.5-inch sable there, and I couldn't help thinking it had some Royal genes, too. One only wonders if any Royals remain considering all the strife Angola has incurred in recent times. In the early days, Bob Lee of Hunting World fame facilitated hunting safaris in Angola. Those certainly were good days of safari hunting.
