This pic shows Dr.Arthur Berger on his Safari in "Deutsch Ostafrika-Tanganika" long before WW1.
You can find it in his book "in Afrikas Wildkammern".
His biggest lion and a black maned ! shot with 9.3x62
His standard rifle and caliber.Only for elephants he used a .577 when I remember right.
