Nothing at all to do with Africa !
I caught this estimated 250 to 300lbs Piraiba catfish in a tributary of the Amazon last year.
It was landed on a 6ft 6ins Bass rod, 50lbs braid line and a 10/0 circle hook.
The fight lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes and the rod broke at 2 hours !
We released him after the pics.
The world record Piraiba was caight in the same area in 2008 and weighed in at 295lbs
The sheer variety of fish we caught there was amazing. A great experience to be in the jungle with tribal guides and not another soul in site all week.
Oh, and I take parties there as well if anyone wants to try their luck. We also caught nearly 1,000 Peacock Bass on fly, jigs and spinners.
