    Tanzania Plains Game -- Gazelle??

I’ve hunted four different GMAs in Masailand, including both sides of Lake Natron. When I head back next month, I’m going to Adam’s area on the east side of Natron…. It’s perhaps my favorite area in Africa.

    Tanzania Plains Game -- Gazelle??

Some outfitters allow you to “license up” and some do not. You can always talk to them about it of course. There is generally much less quota for the species on the longer license, and the outfitter runs the risks of not having quota for the hunters that season that are staying longer, if...

    Tanzania Plains Game -- Gazelle??

Tanzania just works a lot different than the RSA or Namibia. Generally higher daily rates, lower trophy fees in many instances and limitations by license duration. On a short license, you can get Grants and Thomsons gazelle, East African Impala, and buffalo, but not gerenuk, lesser kudu...

Thoughts on this old Holland and Holland

That’s a great rifle. 7x57 is both one of the best rounds ever made for whitetail and classic African round. It’s clearly a take-apart. You can see the oversized front screw on the bottom metal, and the split in the tang behind the bolt

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

Shame on each and all of you. If these cartridges are dead then I have quite a few zombies. 450 NE is still factory loaded by Hornady, I believe. Hendershot’s shows 318 WR available, although it’s quite dear, and brass is pretty simple to resize from 30/06. Brass, dies and bullets are...

    280 Nitro Express

Nice rifle. These photos look like a high grade Daniel Fraser take down rifle. It would the great to see where it has Lancaster on the barrel etc. Sometimes these rifles traded and retailed within the trade, so anything is possible. It certainly looks like it came out of Fraser’s shop. It’s...

    280 Nitro Express

Welcome to AH! I have a Charles Lancaster 280 nitro express. The cartridge is also called a 280 Ross. It’s generally considered an obsolete cartridge. It’s a easy proposition for a reloader provided they can find the correct .287 bullets. Some pictures would be very helpful in determining...

    Hornady's next big creation......maybe?

In Texas we’d call that round “all hat and no cattle”.

    35 Whelen or 300 Win??

There are two great choices here, but one had a lot more class - the 35 Whelen!

Newly Acquired Jeffery .333 Nitro Express

Super cool find. These seem to come up less often than the 318s or 350 Rigby magnums. If there is still a record to be found in the ledgers, it’s likely recorded by the 2xxxx number on the barrel. The 7xxx number was likely on the action when Jeffery received it. Let us know how it shoots!

    Opinions please: Pros/Cons of .375 Ruger vs .375 H&H

This is all the more ironic, given that Bill Ruger’s passion project and premier express rifle, the Ruger Safari Magnum, was released in 416 Rigby, and, you guessed it, 375 H&H. When Ruger made the best rifle they could, they made it in a 375 H&H.

    Opinions please: Pros/Cons of .375 Ruger vs .375 H&H

375 Ruger is a solution to a problem that never existed. The 375 H&H is older than any of us on this thread, and will be alive and well long after all of us and this thread is long dead.

Classic and Collectible Car and Motorcycle Thread

3.0 CSL - the original BMW “M” car. I don’t drive it as much as I should, but it brings a smile on my face every time I do.

Tell us more about education in Florida. It seems to have challenges.

    458-338 lapua? Anyone done this?

I thought a 338 Lapua was a necked down 416 Rigby. Would this be the long way around to get to a 450 Rigby (or just back to a 416)?
