  • I just wanted to reach out to you because we seem to be of the same mindset.

    Do you live in Australia?

    Bob Nelson 35Whelen
Yes on the Central coast of NSW 100km North of Sydney.
If you want to call me my number is 61427129011 and I'm on what's app as well.

Hi Bob, hope you're doing well. So now I'm the owner of two 400 Whelens. Strictly by chance I happened on a custom build with 1903 Springfield action, Douglas barrel, Boyd stock and Redfield Olympic peep sight. I'm working on loads and sighting in so it's big fun.

Mate you are going to have fun working up loads for that one as well.
A bloke in OZ necked up a 280AI case to 375 and is getting really impressive velocities. I wonder how the same case would go at 35 and 400. More capacity than the Whelen and Whelen AI case. Interesting.

Bob my friend from Sydney went to Safari firearms yesterday to pick up some stuff & looked at the Marlin 35 REM for me, they want $1900 for it with a tasco scope, & $1600 with out scope i think its a $900 rifle at the most thank you for the lead but i will not pay that much.
    Bob

I actually have a .358 Hawk and have used it extensively in Alaska and Africa for 25 years. It has really been a great rifle and cartridge. The performance on game has been outstanding. It is a slightly improved .35 Whelen case with a little more capacity.

Do you or any of your group have any knowledge to share on loading the .358 Hawk with CFE223?

Jim I have nos experience with that cartridge but can tell you CFE223 burn rate is between varget and H4350 so if the round uses either of these powders are used in the round you may be able to use CFE223.
Sorry I can't be of any Moe help mate.

HI Bob, I was notified you're following me. As you can tell by my site name I'm also Whelen fan. I've had a 35 for years and finally got my 400 in July. The 400 has been big fun and I'm heading out today to do some chronograph work on some loads I'm developing (I also reload). Living in South Carolina, USA I think I'll try the 400 on wild hogs first.
    G'day Bob,
Just had a yarn with A G, and he has filled me in on how much work he puts in to such developments, referencing QuikLoad, tightening tolerances, load development, range testing. He indicated that of you wish to contact him directly he can go into details far better than I.
If you wish , contact him directly, he has given the OK for me to pass that on.
Hi Bob, how's things going in Wyong?. Down your way a couple of years back but haven't been in NSW since Ebor for the fishing. just getting over some nasty storms up here in Qld, seeing the sun for the first time in a few days. I'm going to NZ in the spring and hope to clean up a few buns while there and perhaps shake the spiders out of my old .303LE (currently owned by my BIL). Cheers Brian
Jeez!!! Not ANOTHER psych nurse!! I did about 12yrs at Graylands up until severely injured in 2013. What's your brother's name, and where did you and he work in Graylands?

I'm toying with an opportunity to work/hunt 6mths in Africa, and return here, after the virus bans die down. Only stumbling block is convincing my wife to come with me. Decisions!! Decisions!!

Mate take your family make memories you will never forget. Harald has top quality rifles for hire a good rates or take your own. We took a 35Whelan and a 308 with accubonds. In hindsight the 308was more than enough.

This was my first time in Namibia and if Osombahe Nord safaris run and owned by Harold and Liezel was an example of what was on offer my family feel you would have to go a long way to find a better run more friendly organisation than this.
    Hope this helps mate
    Cheers

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
