I have meet and spoken with Sean Scott several times at our Kansas City SCI Chapter meetings and banquets. I have bid on several of the hunts he donates yearly to our chapter but I always get outbid.
On my one and only Buffalo hunt I used my No.1 in 416 Rigby, as you can see from my posted pictures eariler and my avatar the hunt turned out well, but it was more exciting than I wanted. My PH and I where charged at 7 yards by my buff and chased off by a bull elephant in the span of 20 minutes...
The sun was in my eyes, so I may be squinting. I'm right handed but left eye dominate, so I've been hunting with a #1 for the last 35 years. I love how short and handy the #1s are, they are easy to carry in the field and work well in tree stands. The No. 1 I used on my buffalo weighs a trim...
My 13 year old son used 200 TA in his 300WM to great effect in the Easter Cape last July. His shots ranged from 90 yards on the warthog to 351 yards for the Kudu. As for accuracy the attached target was a cold bore shot and two additional shots at 100 yards. My may never use another rifle or...
This is my sons first kudu, he took it in the Eastern Cape in July of 2024, one shot whith his 300WM at 351 yards. Not bad for a 13 year old on his first safari.
The 35 Whelen is a working rifle, and deserves a plain stock as befits its status as the most used rifle in your collection. Putting a nice piece of wood on a 35 Whelen is a mark of shame and should be avoided at all costs. Your stock just needs a few dings and scratches and it will be perfect...
What I don't understand about tipping is why the PH gets more than your tracker. On my last safari in July of 24 my tracker did much more work for me than my PH did. While my PH and I enjoyed a nice lunch my tracker was cleaning and fueling the truck, overseeing if not actually skinning my game...
This is purely personal preferance on my part so take it for what is worth. I hunted with a 30-06, 270 and a 7mm-08 for many years, then I got a 35 Whelen and those other three cartridges all became back-up never to see another day in the field. My dad just gave me a Zastava 9.3x62 so now those...
