Reloading can be dangerous and scary if you don't do it right.

Norma brass is the best quality brass you can buy. If everything is measuring in spec then I just wonder if something had fallen into the case before loading that took it from 82% to 100+%. Trouble is that you will never know

I doubt that 0.3gn is the root cause of the issue. There is something else going on? How did you measure the powder? Were all the cases trimmed to length? Did you check clearance to the lands?

    416 WSM first range trip

If you are going to build on a Siamese Mauser action, then the 416WSM is the best choice due to the cartridge length of 2.950" and the Taylor @ 3.340. If you are going down the 416/348W cartridge then you need to open the bolt face unless it has previously been modified for 45/70. For a virgin...

416WSM on Siamese Mauser & 416/348Ackley Improved on Martini

My cousin has a 358NM built on a Zastava M70 action. He was not happy with the factory safety as it does not lock the bolt handle. I took my first proto safety that was assembled into a firing pin assy using K98 parts that I bought from SARCO to try on his Zastava action. The firing pin assembly...

416WSM on Siamese Mauser & 416/348Ackley Improved on Martini

Its always easier to remove metal, so beefy is a good place to start. I have another 29 to play with and get perfect. I had been using Aliexpress stainless dowels, and they were not hard and started to show signs of ware. When activating the safety the fealing was"dowy". I bought some proper...

416WSM on Siamese Mauser & 416/348Ackley Improved on Martini

After exploring a few options on how to machine the safety lever, the version shown below was cut out of 6mm sheet with a laser cutter. The hole positions were laser etched with a X, which I later drilled in the mill. The 3mm dowel pin was then pressed into the lever. I then used the dowel pin...

    416 WSM first range trip

With 350gn Speer hotcore 70gn of AR2206H gave 2417fps With 400gn Hornady 67gn of AR2206H gave 2251fps Neither load had pressure signs.

Hodgdon's H4895 is manufactured in Australia and is sold here as AR2206H. It is specified as being temperature stabilised. I easily get 2400fps with 350Speer hotcores with a 21" barrel.

    MARTINI-HENRY

Love a Martini rifle, I have 4 working and 1 in progress. The largest is in 45/100 and is built on a Greener shotgun action. Unfortunately it was only when the engraving was being done that it became clear that the Greener actions are quite soft. So it is restricted to black powder only. The...

Why a .338 WM in Africa?

The 333 Jeffery with 300gn projectiles had a great reputation to be able to penetrate. My 338 Sprinter barrel arrived last week. And my 416/348 Ackley Improved reamer is back at PTG being reground to 338/348 AI. Another Siamese Mauser project. On an action that had previously been modified for...

416WSM on Siamese Mauser & 416/348Ackley Improved on Martini

Ok, now I fully understand your issue. I have a Timney safety on my 93 Mauser. After my experience using it, that is why I am looking at making a better alternative. The 3 position Winchester type is the best design, but the only company that makes a version for the Siamese Mauser will not...

Yes the Chapman is a 2 position safety. I does lock the bolt, but then you cannot disassemble the bolt. I am not at all familiar with the Springfield action, I have never handled one, so I am struggling to fully understand all your good work from the photo. If it works, then you have to be happy.
