How many guns is “too many”?

“… shall not be infringed” means it doesn’t need to be a topic of conversation. AKA “noneya.” As in, noneya business. :) AKA “As many as I want.” :)

Possibly best all around African caliber?

I’m sure it’s fine, but only checks some of the boxes. The .375 H&H is the best all-round cartridge for Africa and I’m not even sure what’s in second place. It can, and has, and will kill every huntable animal on the continent. The best all-round won’t ever be a wildcat, for multiple reasons.

Info Please on Flying Delta Airlines Non Stop from Atlanta to Africa....

I've done it many different ways. I've transited in Europe twice -- once via Amsterdam (no rifles) and once via Frankfurt (both trips were to Windhoek). Gracy took care of the rifle paperwork for Germany and it was reasonably straightforward on Lufthansa. I enjoy Europe, and stayed for a day...

    Lets See Your Upland Shotguns

Nothing fancy for me, just a CZ Bobwhite side-by-side in 20 ga. It points and shoots more naturally for me than the O/U Browning Citori I was using previously. As others have said, chukar and hun numbers were unreal last season. For upland, a gun that I'm not afraid to drop in the rocks is...

    New Visa requirements for Namibia

Well maybe. Labor is pretty cheap in Africa.

Bullets that well advertised but were not that great

I think you'll be OK. I've shot a few critters under 100 yards and I haven't recovered a bullet. They've all gone through deer to elk-sized animals. Make sure you're using their hunting bullets and not their target bullets.

Best All Around Caliber for Plains Game

I've done most of my damage on plains game with an ancient Mk V .300 Weatherby shooting 180gr TTSX. It has worked perfectly well on stuff from steenbok to eland. The custom rig I had built a few years back is in .300 Win. I'd be content with either.

Bullets that well advertised but were not that great

Hmmmmmm...... Bergers. I don't really know what to think here. I'm not taking any to Africa. Let's start with that. That said, they shoot supremely well in a couple of custom rifles. Like consistently under 1/4 MOA. Soooooo, I enjoy long range shooting, and when I'm really tuned up on the...

    New Visa requirements for Namibia

It’s mostly reciprocity for things the US and Europe impose on visitors from Africa…… and a money grab.

What do you do for a living?

Did 14 years of school after high school graduation. Traded my 20s and most of my 30s for a medical degree & surgical training. Did not hunt for 10 of those years. Now, I screw together broken things inside of people. At this point, I think working equally hard at business might have been...

    Browning Love?

I like their stuff, mostly. I have some pistols that are fantastic. An old pair of Browning 2000 shotguns are just OK, a SA-22 that is fun enough. The 20 ga Citori is a nice shotgun. Really though, I love this Browning Safari rifle in .375 H&H that I inherited. It's begging to be used for...

SOUTH AFRICA: Back From Safari #2

Those are really tremendous animals. Thanks for sharing. I hope someone drags me over there when I’m 82. Fantastic.

Bullets that well advertised but were not that great

Well, the big problem here is that there are two different classes of “typical” game. Thin-skinned game like whitetails, pronghorn, springbok, impala are different than zebra, eland, and elk. The ideal bullet for both critters that works equally well in both slow and fast cartridges (.30-30...

DG calibers/energy laws versus rifle competency

Legal proficiency requirement? Nah, we already have enough hoops to jump through. Practice? Of course. Legal minimum calibers? Well, you’ve got to draw the line somewhere, but anyplace that allows archery or handguns shouldn’t be too restrictive on rifles, IMO. As for effectiveness...

Does the price of ammo impact your choice of a rifle caliber

Mostly, anyone hunting in Africa has bigger financial problems than the cost of ammo. It’s a bit of a consideration with big bores, and when practicing, I suppose. Handloading alleviates most of the cost. When it comes to actually hunting, I’m picky about what I’m using and the cost of...
