I get it... But why spend $125 on a special die when you already have the sizing die at your bench and all you need to do is remove the decapping stem??
They are both single shots but the seating die doesn't take out the case mouth flare if you cannot roll crimp into the cannelure. As such the loaded round doesn't fall into the chamber. The case rim is actually a few tenths from going flush in the chamber.
As far as I know, the Lee Factory Crimp...
I don't like to drop that far down on a powder charge without some kind of wad/filler as you can get wild pressure swings based on how the powder column ignites. While my Ruger No1 would handle that issue, with the TC Encore you could have a barrel blow up on you.
In an interesting twist (reloading master class): if you use bullets that aren't designed for your cartridge. IE: Using 50-110 bullets for a 500Nitro Express. The cannelure doesn't line up for crimping. Additionally, the seater die is designed for a roll crimp for the cannelure vice a tapered...
I have 2 - 500 Nitro Express rifles, a custom Ruger No1 and a TC Encore. The TC Encore needs a lighter recoiling round then factory ammo as it comes in at a mere 8lbs and that is vicious with full throttle ammo. I'm playing with some 500gr Woodleigh FP, designed for 50Alaskan or 50-110Win. I...
I'm even less help. I bought a 375 Ruger and had the barrel bored out to 0.423 to make a 404 Ruger. Get what you want and what your wallet supports. 375Ruger ammo and brass, much easier to find. Easier to load down in bullet weight, 250gr for large North American game or go up to 350gr for...
I have a custom Browning A-Bolt in 458Lott. I had a surplus of 458Win Mag brass and have done exactly what you are asking. This has worked extremely well with North Fork SS Bullets as the bullet itself is a little longer by its design of a solid copper shank. I have shot a bunch of 450gr in the...
1 tin of Imperial Size Die Wax goes a longgggg way. Last one lasted well over 5yrs. That's the best sizing lube I've found. A little goes a long way and I've never (knock on wood) stuck a case yet, using it.
To save time in the future..
Setting up your die: fully remove the size button stem. Screw the die into your press and leave a full turn (360°) from touching the shell holder. Lube a once fired (from your rifle) case and set into the shell holder. Run the ram up fully. Take your case and check...
It's been an ongoing wait...Raven Rock has a very large shipment of 404J Norma brass coming. I think they ordered special run quantity. It was supposed to be here in mid-August. I reached out to them mid-Nov and they said it's still coming, they were hopeful it would be here before the year was...
When I did expansion testing on Hawk Bullets in my 404J, every single bullet separated the jacket from the core. When I contacted their engineer, he blamed it on yaw. Either via bullet alignment to the bore as part of my reloading methods or not enough twist rate.
My expansion test is dry...
I'm a Swarovski (1st) and Leupold (2nd) for rifle scopes. When I find a Z6 (Z6i) at a good price, it's go time. Recently snagged a Z5i and equally pleased.
I will NEVER...not ever again own a Minox (Blaser Corp is parent). Have had issues with 2 out of 3 of their scopes. Their warranty service...
