@Altitude sickness - Agree… and hopefully my post was taken by All with some “humor” and did Not “besmirch” anyone.—-just like I don’t get offended if someone thinks I wear a knife to “look cool” (I wish I was “Cool”).
@Altitude sickness - there are a few Hunters like @daxter11 that don’t carry a knife even while hunting and they are sometimes Women or a man that rarely hunts alone, doesn’t know how to sharpen a knife and requires others to do basic things for them. These Hunters may view their Guide or PH as...
@franzfmdavis: I have always carried my wallet in my Back pocket — and I carry a very Fat wallet…fits in all pants from jeans to dress pants or hunting pants. My pocket knife is carried in a front pocket and occasionally i use a “clip” and it rides attached but inside top of the front pocket...
@akrifleman: I would think that the softer recoil of the 9mm is a big benefit to most in LE that might need to actually use their firearm to defend themselves - at some point in their careers. My line of work was Not LE but I worked closely with many and had friends join Police Departments as...
@akrifleman - I thought the reason the FBI switched BACK to the 9mm was because the majority of Agents could Not handle the recoil of the .40 S&W - couldn’t shoot them accurately and especially female agents. My understanding is that Now FBI Agents have the “option” to use either the 9mm or .40...
@akrifleman: actually I would NOT be interested “in the math” - my head already hurts from reading all of the data, formulas, and equations posted so far (I barely passed Algebra II in high school)….Einstein was NOT a Hunter and I’m Not a mathematician….@michael458 provided All the info I need...
@JimP - Yep….I’m so use to having one and it’s gotten so bad that when I fly anywhere and Don’t check my luggage - first stop after landing is a Walmart and I buy a ‘cheap one’ to carry wherever I am.
@CZDiesel: at some point do you think we can find a “Math equation” that will kill buffalo —-without any gun needed? Just show the Buff the Sectional Density numbers on a smart phone and it will “surrender”. That might end this Harvard level academic debate.
@deewayne2003 - if the PH is paying the Trophy fee for my Elephant hunt - he can use his knife….otherwise the knife my Father gave me is cutting that tail off !
@OxfordTheCat - agree and have carried a pocket knife since 3rd grade - including to school (1960s) and on airplanes (until 9/11)….feel naked without one. My Father always said “a most useful tool and you’ll use it everyday”. When hunting - always have 2 knives: one on my belt and smaller one...
@coreydb: I’m also Not a fan of the .300 Windbag and it’s 25% more recoil for only 5% more power - at 300 yrds it’s 180 gr bullet drops only 2” less then the ‘06. If the .308 is known as the “most efficient” .30 cal round then the .300 wm must be the “least efficient”.
It is a very fine...
@Letzhunt - is the standard “200 yrd zero” for a .30 cal really “antiquated”? I certainly am aware that newer scopes offer better technology for long range shooting but is that really needed for shots Under 300 yrds? I wouldn’t think so on a big game animal Deer size or larger. My .30-06...
@CZDiesel - I don’t recall reading any posts that the .45-70 was “better” but I will go back and see what I missed — My PH never said it was better, just that it was a “good round for Buffalo” and he had seen “many taken with it”. His Asst. PH carried a .45-70 Marlin lever Guide gun, and he...
@CZDiesel - i would not question your “math” or knowledge of sectional density (it exceeds my own) and even penetration tests in ballistic gel could support your point. The “could get someone killed!!!” Comment was a bit dramatic… we’re Not saving live here - just blogging and exchanging ideas...
