S&B 7x57 SPCE for Western Hunting

I am in the process of building up a 7x57 Sauer Mauser and plan to start out shooting this ammo, because the loaded ammo costs less than Norma brass. I have not used the SPCE in 7x57, but I have shot some 196gr SPCE in 8x57 and I’m pleased with it. It’s accurate and cuts a nice hole in the...

    The .257 Roberts thread

I wanted a 257 since I read about it in high school and finally got one a couple years ago - a vz24 action with an Adams & Bennet barrel. My load is a 117gr Hornady SST and IMR4955 in PPU 7x57 brass, at just under 2900fps. It shoots sub 3/4 MOA for 5 shots. I don’t have any pictures, but I...

    358 Winchester & 9.3x57 Question About Performance

Last week I shot two deer on a ranch in Texas with my 358, using a 200gr TTSX at 2650 fps. Both deer went down without taking a step. The rifle is a pre64 M70 with a Shilen barrel and is quite accurate

    Binocular recommendation

I have a set of Kowa Genesis 10.5x44 and they are excellent binoculars. I can’t tell a difference between them and Swarovski SLC, and they are slightly better than my Meopta Meopro Air 10x40s. I recently picked up some Zeiss Conquest 8x32, and I’m very impressed with them, so the SFL should be...

    9.3x62 in 1903 Springfield?

@RayAtkinson thanks for your input from your extensive experience . This rifle isn’t sentimental to me and it is a really slick action. I appreciate the top-notch enabling and will get the rifle sent off for reboring soon.

Why no love for the .358 Win?

Modern powders give the 358 a real boost in velocity, out of the brush cartridge category. Using Ramshot TAC, I am getting around 2600 fps with a 200gr TTSX, whcih is similar velocity to a 180 in a 308, although the BC and SD of the 358 bullet are obviously lower. Out to 500 yards, the...

    9.3x62 in 1903 Springfield?

My 338-06 is on an FN military action and my 35 Whelen is on a Rem 700, so i guess it would be fitting to build a 9.3x62 on a Springfield to complete the intermingling of American and European cartridges and actions

    9.3x62 in 1903 Springfield?

@Ontario Hunter I definitely have enough metal in the barrel. Although it is the original barrel, it has a beefier profile than an 03A3 and it appears that no metal was removed during sporterizing since the original proof mark and barrel date are still visible underneath the front sight. It...

    9.3x62 in 1903 Springfield?

About $300 vs $600-700. Rebarreling a surplus gun seems to be a losing proposition, because the rifle will still be worth about what the barrel and labor cost. And the rebarrel cost might be more than that due to the extractor cut in the barrel, like a pre-64 M70.

    9.3x62 in 1903 Springfield?

I have wanted a 9.3x62 for a long time and have a previously sporterized Remington 1903 Springfield, manufactured in 1942, that I am thinking about sending to JES Reboring to rebore into a 9.3x62. The action is not one of the early ones with questionable heat treat ( I have one of those too)...

458 win mag loads with TAC powder....anyone?

I loaded some Barnes 450TSX last night for my 458 - 72.5gr of TAC in Norma cases, seated to just below the first groove to fit in the magazine of my rifle. The powder is compressed, but not heavily, and definitely not to the point that it is concerning; I would describe it as mild compression...

458 win mag loads with TAC powder....anyone?

@Letzhunt Sorry about not including the bullet. I am using the Barnes 450 TSX

458 win mag loads with TAC powder....anyone?

I have been testing TAC in my Rem 798 458 Win Mag with good results. My rifle likes a charge of 72.5gr which gave me a velocity of 2240fps out of the factory 24" barrel. I had the barrel shortened and threaded so I can mount a suppressor and the same load now gives me 2150 out of a 20" barrel...

    Scope for Win70 in 375

I installed a Leupold VX3HD 2.5-8 on my 376 M70 and couldn't be happier with it. It has worked great on Texas pigs and plains game form 30 yards to 160 yards. I have been able to hit a torso sized steel plate at 500 yards yards using a 260gr Partition. it is a trim and lightweight scope that...
