    270 Win/ What to do?

If you decide to re-barrel down the road, try a 5R 1:8 Twist .270 Winchester, which will allow you to access the newer, heavier bullets in that caliber. Red

Any tips for using iron sights with failing eyesight?

Have several low power variable scopes and keep them at the bottom unless there is a specific condition that warrants more magnification. Also have several aperture sighted rifles. And what I find is - that the aperture sighted rifles are easier to track moving game. They have a one-to-one...

Any tips for using iron sights with failing eyesight?

At some point, the aperture will turn into an optical donut, and lose its infinite focal-plane properties.

Any tips for using iron sights with failing eyesight?

And aperture sights were the Military standard for well over a hundred years prior to that recent decision to add an optic. And doesn't invalidate the physics. Red

Any tips for using iron sights with failing eyesight?

Correct. The original infinite focal-plane camera. Light transmission is the only constraint, so big enough, as well as small enough, is a consideration. Why match apertures generally are not the best field choice. Trade a little clarity for better less than optimal light conditions. Red

Any tips for using iron sights with failing eyesight?

There is a reason the Military uses aperture sights. When close to the eye, the aperture acts as an infinite focal-plane lens, that "looks" at the front sight, like an eyeball, while putting Both the front sight And Target in focus. But it has to be a small hole, like the .060-.070" for the M1...

    fast twist 270 Winchester

Think ole Ron's MV numbers are maybe a coupla hundred fps low on the 165 gr. ABLR, especially w/ a 24" Bbl., and right at the top for the 150 gr. (which may or may not stabilize in a 1:10 twist Bbl.). At ~ 2900 fps, the 165 ABLR should exceed 2,000 fps/1,500 ft-lbs for 20" drift at 600 yards...

    fast twist 270 Winchester

With enough RL-26, one could get a brick to Mach 3. 8>) Think that the 150 gr. has always been the .270Win sweet spot. Shoot a lot of Speer Grand Slams in that weight. Red

    9.3 x 62 and the 320 grain Weldcore

Thanks. Still harvesting PPU brass and getting used to the rifle. Decidedly not my .270 Winchester or 6.5x55mm. 8>) 2360-2400 fps MV for the 286 gr. should give me a max ordinate of ~ 3" high @ 100 for a 200 yard zero, and a foot low @ 300. Figure that should be fine. Hodgdon - says 59.0...

Norma 6.5x55 Factory Ammo Available At Good Price (Aug 25, 2022)

Surprisingly, here in MAY23, Rivertown Munitions still has this ammo available, for the same price. Buoyed against Nosler's recent price increases and availability, this ammo should be even more attractive. Rivertown Munitions must have taken a conex box of this ammo on liquidation...

Fast Forward Seven Months... The U.S. Military as adopted the .277 caliber. And this from BROWNING: X-Bolt Speed LR 26" Bbl./7.5T/.270Win. Elegant solution. Will this become the Std. .270Win for the 21st Century? Red

Norma 6.5x55 Factory Ammo Available At Good Price (Aug 25, 2022)

Why yes, yes they are. Stumbled onto this deal the other day from another site/thread. Had been looking for same C.I.P. loaded SP ammo for a while, as PPU/FMJ was about all that was available when the rifle was acquired, and have been disassembling it at the range to harvest the brass...

270 winchester bullet performance question 150 partitions and A frames

The .270/150 gr. GS is fine for a woods round at 2800 fps at the muzzle, as well as out to ~ 300 yds on med/large N/A game. (1500 ft-lbs, 6" drop w/ (+/-) 3" MPBR zero) Got a pile of'em for $0.22/pop. From there, it's the 140 gr. TSX or 130 gr. Trophy Copper (TTSX-esque) GR

270 winchester bullet performance question 150 partitions and A frames

Or, just slow then down to ~ 2800 fps at the muzzle. While Partition/TSX/Trophy Copper bullets at higher velocity work very well in the .270 Winchester? So does the 150 gr. Speer Grand Slam or Remington Core-Lokt at moderate velocities. Given good shot placement on deer and hogs, they kill...

    Monolithic in 6.5

Came across a coupla boxes of .264"/130 gr. TSX-BT for the 6.5x55. Even at ~ 2800 fps. (24" Bbl.), it should be more than enough bullet, even for elk and moose. Red
