Many thanks for the advanced warning, I’ve just renewed my membership that I hope not to need!!

    Crazy! Cow Elephant charge!

Absolutely, this was a determined charge that was only going to end in one or more deaths! Fortunately both the PHs were excellent and dealt with the charge with clinical efficiency. Very impressive!!

Any reason not to use a 350 grain .375 bullet for buffalo

My understanding from studying the works of Doctari that the heavier 350gr expanding projectiles are advantageous because they expand to a greater diameter and therefore create a larger permanent wound cavity than the equivalent 300 gr projectiles. His one exception was with the TSX as the...

A First Timers Guide to Buffalo

I mainly agree with you when it comes to a double feed jam with the push round feed. Simply push the second round back into the mag or remove it and make sure the bolt rides over the next round and all will be good. Where this fails is when the PRF extractor has pulled the rim off the cartridge...

    Crazy! Cow Elephant charge!

What impressed me was how close the two bullet holes were. Presumably one was from Buzz’s .500 and the second from David Manns .458 Lott. Not sure where the clients shot went!

    AHR upgrades: safety

I would second this, the timing of the safety took my smith a good while but as said before it now works perfectly.

    AHR upgrades: safety

Here is a picture of an AHR safety installed on a ZKK 602. It just needs blueing but works perfectly

    6.5x57 Mauser RWS ammunition question

Both will work but the H mantel will be better for heavier game. Think of it as a Nosler Partition. The H mantel was very well thought of for shooting Red deer in Scotland

    Foot and mouth?

As far as I know foot and mouth is endemic in parts of Africa. The foot and mouth disease virus is relatively easy to kill but very readily transmissible. The dipping process should degrade the viable virus particles.

    Best calibre for Giraffe

Good advice, I have been studying “The Perfect Shot” and noted exactly that!

    Best calibre for Giraffe

Has anyone else been injured while hunting away from home?

Gralloch is the local term for gutting…. Sounds much nicer don’t you think? Origin is from Gaelic

Has anyone else been injured while hunting away from home?

If stabbing myself counts….. yes!! I was in the process of starting to gralloch (gut) a red deer in Scotland and the blade slipped into my thigh just above my patella. After being recovered by @Lancaster the skin was stitched. What I didn’t realise is how weak my quadriceps muscles were after...

    Best calibre for Giraffe

Thanks! All great suggestions…. Keep them coming…… The “iron” that I’m packing on this trip will be a 458 Lott with 420g CEB Raptors/450g Safari solids and my .375 H&H with the 300g TSX. Both are scoped 1 or 1.5 up to 6x. I’m sure either rifle will do the job just fine if the situation arises...

    Best calibre for Giraffe

I appreciate there has been a recent thread on the 6mm being used to shoot a giraffe following a YouTube video but I am interested what more sensible folks would choose to hunt a bull giraffe. I’m hoping you don’t all rush in and say .243 !! Many thanks
