OK, back to something of relevance. I did reach out to the buyer’s agent and told him that he/his BIL absolutely dodged a bullet on that purchase at the agreed upon price. The components did ease some of the pain, but ironically, that is the hang up now. I can say this now as Rare Breed has indicated he is not going to relist the gun here, but will list on GB or GI. Even if shipping is not worked out, with new knowledge, I would be doing backflips to be out a handful of hundreds on this $20,000 purchase.

This is why I always handle and personally inspect any and all firearms I am contemplating purchasing. I have no dog in this fight and say shame on them both. As for banishment I believe that is up to Jerome!

People should remember that as it appears the rifle was somehow repaired by the previous owner. Why wasn’t it done to the rifle prior to shipment? Why would the quality be allowed to pass his hands to another fellow member at such a huge cost? For me it this behavior shouldn’t be given a blind eye as though it seems to me that some men can afford it and a $20k rifle is used simply as an old brush hunting rifle, oh well I guess my opinion shouldn’t matter much.

The issue at hand is what if what if one of them is a scoundrel. Then it has to go public and the group must decide whether to expel the bad actor.

I agree. Just because some guys shoot elephants and traffic in double rifles, they MUST be "gentlemen." Actions speak louder than ... stereotypes. Or they should anyway.

I won’t to start off by stating that I do not personally know either party involved, the buyer or seller. I believe the facts have already been presented and hashed out on the other thread, so no use to continue here.

I personally have called for RB to be banned on the other thread. For this I apologize, I was out of line. With that said I believe banning or not banning should be decided by the moderators not the members.

I do not apologize for stating the facts, calling out an injustice or standing up for the wronged buyer. I unquestionably believe the facts put RB solely at fault. We have already judged RB enough. This has gone on too long. I hope and pray that RB will come back to the table and make things right with the buyer, it’s not to late.

It is very easy for us to cast stones, but none of us are perfect. In fact I was looking forward to meeting RB and others at DSC but unfortunately due to weather the dinner was canceled.

I will not be voting on this issue.

I enjoy the great camaraderie of this forum. But I want no truck with it if it just becomes an old boys club.

This whole dishonesty, fraud, deceit allegation falls apart the second he paid a refund and return shipping. If it was any type of intentional wrongdoing he’s not giving the money back. He’s not paying return shipping. Rare breed is at a loss on this deal too. How does he benefit from this alleged fraud? “Fraudsters” don’t commit frauds that result in a net loss.

Worst case it was sloppy advertising. In practice the buyer cared about something the seller didn’t care about. They had a difference of opinion. Buyer mistook the representation that JJ said the gun was “perfect” as applying to cosmetics rather than function. When it became clear the buyer was dissatisfied, seller returned the purchase price and paid return shipping. There obviously was no fraudulent intent.

I bought a used double on here. We didn’t talk about dings, scratches, or wear on the finish. When I got the rifle it had some of those things.

I didn’t make a thread complaining. It never even crossed my mind because I bought a used rifle. In fact I was still happy with the deal because I paid a fraction of what a new one costs. Instead I took it to Africa and shot an elephant in the face.

My two cents, and over-valued at that:
- the painful and detailed posts have served their purpose. Anyone with an ounce of sense will be cautious with the seller going forward.
- all this discussion on a resolution is just gum flapping. A satisfactory resolution can only be achieved if the buyer and the seller engage with an intent to reach a resolution. The rest of our thoughts on how to do so are not worth the time it takes to type them.
- the buyer dodged a bullet on this purchase, and should be eternally thankful.
I really hope this thread dies soon!

As a person who has hunted with @Rare Breed , I can attest that he is a good man. He is one of the friendliest guys you will ever meet. I have far too many faults myself to throw stones at someone else. And I’m sure none of you are without fault yourselves. This thread is a bit ridiculous IMO. Let the two parties work it out between themselves. There’s already enough negativity in the world, without having to come on here to find it as well.
