Marius took me to see Castle Bran and underground Salt Mine. I visited Capela Militara to honor the Romanian veterans and my US family veterans. Lit a candle and said a prayer.

I love Bear hunting, always wanted a euro bear, but just cant swing it. I do have a interior Alaskan griz, estemated by fish and game at around 650ls, and several black bears, biggist from a couple years ago at around 450-500lbs. some day ill get over their and thump one.

The Cluj Napoca airport. The Romanian Border Patrol and Customs personnel protecting their country and its' visitors. My firearm and ammo entry and leaving the airport were handled by professional and courteous officers. Upon coming off the plane I approached the border patrol officer and informed him I had permit documentation for my brown bear hunt and how would he like to proceed. Beautiful country and friendly Romanians.

Good luck to Rockwall205 ( Scott) on your April brown bear hunt.
Thanks for answering all my questions via DM . Plus extra information which is very helpful. Talked ( Emailed ) to Marius tonight, everything shaping up . I have never big game hunted Europe so looking forward to a new experience. Congratulations again on a successful hunt !

Most of my hunters hit the bear on the right spot and 1 bullet was enough to get the job done. Here are some tips for next hunters:

  • Do NOT aim at the heart and miss the bear low. Remember, bears have an abundance of fat and fur so it can be difficult to tell exactly where the body cavity sits. It’s better to aim “mid-mid” and touch back to the shoulder, rather than intentionally trying to shoot the heart.
  • Do NOT shoot too high when trying to make a high-shoulder shot. The vitals of a bear sit lower than a typical big game animal. There’s no doubt that you will knock the bear to its belly with a shot too high, but there is a good chance it will get up and head out of town afterward.
  • Do NOT hit too far forward on a quartering-away bear. This will likely lead to a wounded bear that you won’t ever see again. Remember, the vitals of a bear sit farther back than a deer or elk’s.

This is a lungs shot! Bear will die in 50-75 yards with the correct bullet weight.

In 2016 when the ministry of environment didn’t approved the brown bear hunting quota I sent a letter to the prime minister and the ministry of environment to say the catastrophic consequences of this action. Punctually the loss of fear of humans. Before this ban we have reported few death caused by bears. I remember only 1 or 2. Of course nobody has listened. From 1016 exponentially we started to have problems with the overpopulation of brown bears. After that decision over 23 humans was killed and hundreds of other people mauled with permanently injuries. Now Romania has much over 10000 bears and any decision to hunt them again for number regulation will have effect in same amount of years since the hunting was banned.
To manage correctly a bear population we need to act on two directions.
1. To regulate the number according with the anual growth with hunters.
2. To eliminate the problem bears who are acting in the villages, towns etc with specialised teams of government or private organisations.
In consequence I’m happy with decision of Slovak government but they need to continue with other action to solve the problems.

Marius thanks for the insights and visual photo for all of us to become better brown bear hunters. We need to ethically harvest big game and not have a wounded bear.

Last days was very cold and snowing in the mountains areas. Bears are active, soon the mating season will start. Don’t hesitate to contact us for an opportunity to get a beautiful brown bear! We have spots available for this fall October-November!!!

Yes very successful! After hunting for nearly 40 years this was the quickest! I flew into Cluj - Napoca the night before and we drove up the following morning. We got settled into a very nice hotel with plans to meet the Ranger and complete paperwork that evening and hunt after. As we were pulling off to park for our walk into the hunting area we saw 4 bears . A big female with 3 cubs !

No wonder why there are so many bears. A female producing three offspring a year with no hunting for eight years that’s doubling or even tripling your population !

We got out and had to wait until they moved on . Not more than a few minutes walking up the road the Ranger spotted a bear he had been watching and said it’s a shooter . I got in a kneeling position for a steady rest and took the shot . He was broadside and slightly quartering toward our position. He rolled hit the ground but got back up as backup shots were fired as he went out of sight.

As we moved up he was spotted in the bottom of the creek walking towards us . I aimed at his chest but as I shot he lowered his head thus the hole in his skull!

Beautiful bear , the only issue for me was it was over just as it began! But when you’re given an opportunity to shoot an old boar you take it !

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
