Most surprising/had to have animal on your first Safari

Thank you, that's exactly how I describe it! Never fails to get a reaction and I've used it to discuss conservation numerous times.

Most surprising/had to have animal on your first Safari

We were night hunting for bush pig and the spotlight lit up a civet. It was the excitement of my PH, the kind of excitement that screams "this is a great trophy" that made me pull the trigger. I'm very glad I did! I've been back since then but have yet to see another, despite several night hunts.

Wanted 1 Box Of Hornady 450-400 Nitro Express 3" 400gr

Hello to all of my fellow hunters! My first dangerous game hunt is coming up in October and I've found that I'm running out of practice rounds for my double. This is obviously my own fault, but if anyone had a box of these that they would be willing to part with I would appreciate it! Many...

    450/400 3" weight

That's a great point, thank you! I dropped it off this morning and the gunsmith was considering putting some of the weight in the fore-end as well to help with the balance. I never would have thought about it!

    450/400 3" weight

Well in that case I think I'll be visiting the gunsmith tomorrow! My first dg hunt is in October and I'm nervous enough as it is lol
  9. Eventually_Africa_Again

    450/400 3" weight

Thank you for the information! Did it alter the rifles accuracy or regulation at all? I wasn't sure if changes to the stock would also change how it shot.

    450/400 3" weight

Hello again all! I had a quick question for you all. My current 450/400 3" weighs in at 8lbs even and while I can handle the recoil it strikes me that might be a tad light. If I had some recoil reducers or weights added to the stock, would that throw it's accuracy and regulation off a cliff, or...

Difference between the 450/400 and the .450 3¼

Well I did end up with the rifle, 450/400 3in NE and, with the help of the kind folks on this site I've gotten comfortable with it. For those who followed that thread, I found out I was cheek welding way too far forward and was resting on the narrowest ridge of the stock, not further back on...

    Developing a flinch

Hey all! Just wanted to give you a quick update. I took a lot of your advice and decided to try to apply it to shooting my shotgun. It's the closest aproximation I have, and one heck of a lot easier on my wallet to shoot. I went and tried a few rounds of trap, and realized my posture is far...

    Developing a flinch

AH, see, that is a bit outside of my price range. Ah well, looks like I'll just sink the money into more ammo for more practice. I might look at some of the used gun stores around here though, could get lucky heh.

    Developing a flinch

I want to thank you all for this help, looks like I'm heading to a gunstore tomorrow to see about getting a side by side to practice with. Normally I'm a skin flint when it comes to guns, but my guide pointed out that on this hunt a flinch could end badly for all of us, so the cost is justified.

    Developing a flinch

That line drawing helps a ton! Also do you happen to know where I can get a pair of shotgun barrels for this double? It's a chapuis and I haven't been able to find any! Of course, to be fair, I haven't seen any shotgun barrels for sale for any rifle, maybe a Blazer, not sure though.

@rookhawk you are amazing, thank you for responding! So, yes confirmed it is off sticks, it is an iron sight with a bit of liquid paper (whiteout) on the end because I was loosing the brass button sight to the black target and couldn't see it very well. It eats a standard off-the-shelf Hornady...

Unfortunately no, I bought it online and talked to him over the phone. Nice fellow though!!

    Developing a flinch

They are the ones I bought it from actually! They have been great to work with when it had a few minor issues here and there. I don't think I'll be able to go, but I do want to say they treated me very well and if I ever want another of these I intend to go through them again.

    Developing a flinch

Is there any chance that you can press your cheek "too tight" to the stock? Should I just lightly rest my cheek on it while I hold it firm and steady into my shoulder, or should I be jamming my cheek down on it like I was hugging a tree in a hurricane?
  32. Eventually_Africa_Again

    Developing a flinch

I appreciate it, and for the other rifles your 100% right, I'm sure that would help me solve it! I just need to get the 450/400 cheek-hitting thing figured out though, because I love this rifle, I want to take it to Africa, and I am 95% certain I'm holding it wrong or something which makes it...

    Developing a flinch

Well I'd love to have a fitter take a look, unfortunetly I'm stuck in Albuquerque NM and that's a bit of a walk away from London lol. Not many people in this neck of the woods have experiance with one, I took mine to a gunsmith here for an issue, he's been around the block a time or three and it...

    Developing a flinch

My apologies! I am shooting off of sticks. Basically what I mean is, the gun goes back into my shoulder, but also seems to rise up to meet my cheek pretty hard. No matter how I brace, it seems like every full pulls of the trigger my cheekbone gets hit.

    Developing a flinch

Good afternoon all! I am coming to you for advice. I recently picked up a 450/400 double for my first buffalo hunt this October and while I love the gun I am rapidly begining to hate shooting it. I have, and shoot, a 9.3x62, a 375 H&H and a 404 Jeffery, none of which react the way this one...

    Trouble seeing the brass bead

Good morning/afternoon all!! Well, as some of you may remember I had bought a Chapuis 450/400 double that I could not get to center. We got that all sorted out with Champlin Firearms (who I highly recommend!) and now she prints very nice touching groups at 50 yards. The problem is, I keep...

Help Deciding on Double Rifle Chambering

I picked up a 450/400 at the end of last year and I love it. Comfortable recoil, good follow up shot placement, everything I had hoped for in a big game double.

    Double rifle regulation issue

So I ended up taking the rifle out to the field to test the "worst barrel" and your right,t he first barrel is shooting just a little to the right, the left barrel is shooting about 4 inches low. I've ended up sending it back for re-regulation because at that point I think it's beyond the power...

    Double rifle regulation issue

Yea, I thought about it but I got a local gunsmith to get ti straightened out. I don't fancy returning it, heck of a wait time!
  40. Eventually_Africa_Again

    Double rifle regulation issue

Yea, I do wonder. It's a brand new rifle, I'm the first owner so I think it should have been regulated with the newer ammo.

    Double rifle regulation issue

Allright, so I went back to the range and I put some shots through her. Here are the results. I know it's shooting the right, which I think I can fix. All of those were at 50 yards except the last one when I got frustrated and moved it to 25 yards. I also calmed down, took my time etc so that...

Hello all! I am very sorry for how long this update has taken to write, we have had a death in our family and it's been hectic. I haven't been out to shoot again, I'm going to try to go tomorrow. We did get the sight fixed though. I'm trying to practice my cheek weld, the last time I went out...
