    New Ruger/Marlin 1895 SBL 45/70

Has Ruger rounded the edges on the loading port? Those sharp edges peel hide off your fingers sometimes. Glad to hear Ruger is doing it right. As soon as you can we’d like a range report. Thanks

    The power of 45-70

Thanks for posting this article, I’m a huge .45-70 fan. I have some Hornaday 500gr softs & solids left over from my .458 days. I’m trying for 1200fps in a nice Ruger #1!

    "Whitetail" load for .375 Ruger

    The power of 45-70

I have chronographed the 405gr REM. JSP at 1730fps from a Marlin 95 using IMR3031 and not a max load. I like the .45-70, the Ruger #1 will go beyond that if your shoulder can.

Can I join the 9.3X62 club?

My .375 is now loaded to 9.3X62 levels & I am enjoying it, so I consider I did basically turn it into 9.3X62. The frosting on this cake is, I’m enjoying my rifle again ( this rifle & I have been on a lot of hunts together) plus I still have full .375 H&H capabilities if I need them. Having your...

Deadly lethal moderate recoil 30-06 loads?

This!!! Standard cup & core bullets preform beautifully at those velocities. My Father started me with an 06 using IMR4064. Lyman lists 48grs & a 150gr bullet at just over 2600 fps. That’d be a good place to start. If you want a lighter load, I’d try a 125gr bullet at about 2400fps.

Can I join the 9.3X62 club?

My almost 80yr old shoulder wants a bit or a rest. I have been reading most of the 9.3X62 threads & find it’s well thought of almost everywhere. I have a nice old Ruger #1 .375 H& H mag. that I traded for in 1987. This rifle & I have been on a lot of hunts together & I’m NOT selling or trading...

    CFE223 & 375 H&H

WW760 has been my go to powder in the .375 with both 270gr & 300gr bullets for years. I do like how CFE223 meters through a powder measure.

    Sellier & Bellot bullets

Ahaaa, they had 140gr soft points. I bought a box to try $26.50 opened the box & found them to be a semi pointed almost a RN. WOW just try to find a RN to reload here & I’m a fan of RN hunting bullets. When out 22 degrees & snow quits we’ll see how they shoot.

    Sellier & Bellot bullets

Sat. I saw our local gun shop had some S&B 7X57 ammo in stock. I’m going to see what bullet weights they have. Normally I load my ammo, but 175gr 7s are getting hard to find.

Bumping back the shoulder - 375HH?

If you’re loading for one rifle neck sizing is usually fine. If you run into chambering problems you could full length resize, be sure seating bullets out too far isn’t the reason if you have chambering problems. I really don’t like setting the shoulder back with any ctg.

    375 H&H load data

I am exploring IMR4064, prices what they are if I get the same results with a powder that requires less powder than my good old WW760 I’m going to switch. Varget is another I’ll try.

Would this firearm cause a Ruger #1 Guy to sort of smile?

It looks like it fires from an open bolt? I’m a #1 guy & I keep thinking of all that brass I’d have to pick up to reload & I’m sure some would be lost? fun to watch though, thanks for sharing.

    375 H&H load data

For a very long time WW760 has been my go to powder in the .375. It measures wonderfully through a powder measure & I got 1” & tighter 3 shot groups with both the 270gr & 300gr Hornaday bullets. Both also shot into the same group @ 100yds.

The 243 Winchester for Australian Game

My thoughts are we still have a incorrect bullet use problem, not a caliber problem! If I used a 235gr Speer at 2900fps in my .375 on elk, we'd have a poor bullet choice problem not caliber problem.

The 243 Winchester for Australian Game

Reading all of these post what I see is a common denominator causing failure for the .243 is poor bullet choice and or improper shot placement! I think what we really are seeing in failures is a bullet & or shot placement failure, not really a cartridge failure?

    It's started here!

I’m going to throw this out there, it’s an observation from experience. When I started going to gun shows early 60s lots of folks brought things they didn’t want or wanted to swap/sell for something else. You could find a good buy. This started changing in the late 70s, people found they could...

The 243 Winchester for Australian Game

We’re gonna have to agree to disagree here, I’ve seen the .243 preform great on deer & antelope, WITH PROPER bullets & shot placement! Shoot one in the guts with a .458 & get set to track!

The 243 Winchester for Australian Game

I’d hate to have to try to live on the differences between the 6.5X55, .260Rem, or even the hated 6.5 Creedmoor, Or the 7-08, & 7X57, for that matter. Ballistics so similar in the two groups that it’s almost flip a coin. now if you want a 6.5X55 or 7X57 because they have a long well documented...

    Allure of the Ruger No1

Congratulations, that’s a pretty rifle. The stock is above average of what we see here. I don’t know what scopes are available to you, but you won’t go wrong with a Leupold.

    My first Dangerous Game rifle

I think that rifle will be fine! As others have said, practice. A lot of practice can be done without ammo. Familiarize yourself with the rifle, if you can get some snap caps they will help you practice using your rifle.
