    Reloading Bench

If you find a decent beck you may be able to drop a precut bench top from the Hardware and bolt it while bolting down a press. As others said you want some weight. Helps when sizing cases. Especially if you are buying in a branch you won’t bolt to the floor.

    PLAINS GAME CALIBER

Since you want to sell ammo you need to identify the most common cartridge choices for plains game in order to make the sales volume required. .300wm and .30-06 are probably contenders. I used a 7mmRm on plains game and have heard of outfitters providing the 7x64 Maybe consider the .338wm If...

30-06 Rifle for Plains Game - How Big?

Last time I was in the Palace they were asking about “Big Bob .35” I think that’s his drag name and stage name. He would need the make-up too because he has a good face for radio. A .223 I added to her collection.

30-06 Rifle for Plains Game - How Big?

No, That was the Hornaday Marketing team that “introduced “ a flat shooting 6.5 that’s .021 thou more. Some Old Dinosaurs here already knew about an amazing 6.5 that’s been around a hundred years but it’s best marketed in Europe because it works well there delivering results daily

What is going on with tipping culture in the hunting industry?

Tipping as you see it is not part of the Australian culture. We do tip but it’s change or maybe a note dropped in a tip jar at a restaurant but my understanding is of the American lifestyle is different. I read up on tipping before hunting Africa. I considered the breakdown etc and wanted to...

    Proper Gin and Tonic

As chief bartender and beverage manager I have tasted a variety of Gin styles that I sourced for my wife. Firstly, I will say “Taste the Tonic” it’s a big part of the drink and Fever Tree can be found in several varieties at the supermarket. There are other good tonics but if you can drink the...

22-250 and 243 for "small" plains game

I would think the .22-250 is small for use on game. I have the .22-250, .243 and 7mm-08. The 7mm-08 and similar are light recoiling but you own a .243 Maybe hire or take the .243 choice is yours. I had no idea how big a Hyena is

$25,000 in Africa excluding, flights, tips, and trophy shipment what would you do?

That sounds like a sensible way to get some hunting done and good value. I would probably like a Gemsbok because I like the look of the straight horns. Also, of the game meat I ate on safari I think that Gemsbok stood out and I did not hunt a Zebra. But, of late I’ve been thinking I would...

Possibly at 18, that is the age you are considered an adult in Australia and can make adult decisions or wear the adult consequences. Now, saying that even 16 might be fine it it is legal and they are mature and have the physical and shooting ability. At least by then it’s fair to let them...

A thorough conversation with Swarovski - Conclusion: Rookhawk knows nothing and is wrong about everything

What one scope could you hunt anything with….

I considered the Swarovski 2.4-12x50 for my .280a.i. But shelved the idea to use a Leupold 3.5-10x40 that I already owned and saved the money when I had other priorities. Yes, I have seen a drag comparison online of the auto vs manual. I have always owned manuals myself. Not a cruiser but I had several as work vehicles from the 6 cylinder, 6 cylinder turbo and the V8 and drove others in the fleet. Not saying it’s the best but I would have liked one.

.308 Win in Africa - fan or foe?

The most efficient big game cartridges you didn't know you needed!!!

Now I seem to think I need a 7x57 Ackley improved. I wonder if the extra efficiency of that cartridge will equate to economy in field use. If it is more efficient it might be worth building one to save money. Plus it would be a cool cartridge to have.

7mm/08 for Plains Game? Good or Bad?

7mm/08 for Plains Game? Good or Bad?

My first take with my 7-08 was Winchester factory ammo . Might have been a Hornady projectile of 139 or 140 grain weight. Either way feral pigs did not like it, but I did. Used a lot of 120gn Nosler BT in it in reloads after that. I used the 7mm-08 a lot from a vehicle so low recoil and quick...

Sounds like a 7mm-08 would be just right. Even something similar on a high pressure case, change the shoulder angle if they don't want a civilian cartridge.
