    CZ Matrix Upgrade

Tim and I have had some great email and phone conversations since they completed my Lott upgrade. He’s really got some wheels turning for that business in terms of new ideas. He, oddly enough, shared the nuts and bolts of your recoil reducer with me over email the other night! Didn’t know it was...

    Backup Gun!

I took both a 300 win mag and a 375 H&H on my last trip to RSA for plains game. I ended up using both rifles, intermixed, throughout the hunt. It just was a matter of what I grabbed off of the gun rack that day when we got in the truck.

    New camera for the hunt

I bought a Nikon Coolpix a900 in 2017 prior to my first safari as a means to not drag a full size DSLR on hunts. I found I really don't use it with the limited exception of longer distance shots. the newer iPhones just have phenomenal capabilities and are one less thing to carry. I still bring...

    Merkel 140 reviews

I’ve had great luck with mine. No doubling issues and easily found regulating loads with both 500gr Woodleighs, Hornadys, and TSX projectiles. It was originally regulated with Federal/trophy bonded ammo. I bought one of the Cabelas special runs and it came with gorgeous wood. I want to say I...

    Hunting Belts

I've used a Boyt canvas/leather belt. I believe it holds 20 cartridges when loaded fully? I usually load every other loop. I'll be using the same belt for my elephant hunt this spring. Might look at the offerings from both Murray and Els at SCI next month. I normally wear a standard pant belt on...

Got my back up gun for Africa!

@Luvthunt I had the stocks bedded as part of the upgrade. I have a CZ550 in .308 Win in a B&C Medalist varminter stock that is NOT yet bedded and still shoots phenomenal. No fitting required for that one, thus far. Will likely send that off to Matrix this year to set up as a suppressed deer/hog...

Got my back up gun for Africa!

@Paul Raley : The .375 H&H was sent to Wayne Jacobson of American Hunting Rifles in early 2015 for an Upgrade 2. This was paired with a CZ-sourced Aramid stock and originally fitted with a Leupold Euro-30 1.25-4 scope. That rifle has been a long on every big game rifle hunt I've ever taken...

Got my back up gun for Africa!

Ya this is quite the throwback thread….both of those rifles look quite different these days. The 375 has hunted quite a bit and the 458 is prepped and ready for Zimbabwe in a few months.

    CZ 550 .375 H&H AMR Upgrade #2 formerly owned by a member

My AHR modified CZ 375 H&H will be the very last rifle pried from my cold, dead hands. The matching 300 Win Mag (AHR) and 458 Lott (Matrix) would be second and third to last.....

Going Back To Zimbabwe In 2023!

Excellent news, gents. Should be a few great hunting reports to read later this year. I'll be particularly interested in the leopard hunting. Looking to book in a leopard hunt for 2025.

.375 H&H solids for dry land hippo?

Hoping for a successful elephant hunt with some time left over, I've indicated I'd like to hunt hippo on dry land should time permit. I'll have CEB solids loaded for both my 458 Lott and 375 H&H for both elephant and hippo. I had some great accuracy with the Woodleigh hydro 300gr (paired with...

Elephant Tusk Replicas - your experience?

Good morning, all. I'm starting to plan for "taxidermy" for my upcoming non-trophy elephant hunt in Zim. I'd like to have replicas made of the tusks, to be mounted on bases in my office. I briefly spoke with Kanati at the SCI convention last year and plan to have another conversation with them...

    AHR vs Mattrix

I had a fine experience with Matrix this year for an upgrade 2. Their workmanship was excellent. They do have some room to improve on their CS end of things, though. In no way, shape, or form were they rude or not fulfilling in getting me an answer, but they were certainly so swamped with work...

Scope or no Scope for Elephant hunting

A number of acquaintances in the hunting world have adapting to red dots on their bolt guns and doubles alike for dangerous game hunts. I'll be using a Kahles Helia RD on a 458 Lott this coming may for elephant in Zimbabwe.

    Experiences with Matrix Gunsmithing

A few photos I took this week. Not the best quality of photography, but..... 458 Lott at its inaugural range trip. First group. 500gr CEB solids off sticks (Gunstix) at 50yds. The matching set: 300 Win Mag, 375 H&H, 458 Lott.

    Experiences with Matrix Gunsmithing

I received my rifle back on Friday from Matrix. Everything looks great so far. Packaging was adequate to protect in transit. Replaced parts were returned with the rifle, which is different and new from AHR work I'd done (not sure of any true value in this, just an observation). Fit and finish...

    Optics advise?

My 375 wears a Swaro Z6i 1-6 with the CDI reticle. It replaced a Leupold Euro30 1.25-4 with a German 4. The difference in glass was incredible. I find the magnification range to be just about perfect for the cartridge and I've found it adaptable to ranges between 10 and 300 yards on animals...

ZIMBABWE: Mixed Bag In Matetsi With The Kids - A Short Trip Report

    Gunstix Game Changing Shooting Sticks

First hand knowledge with the CEB Raptors

@michael458 can certainly add meaningful experience to this inquiry. I, too, have worked up loads for my rifles (from 257 Wby through 458 Lott) with various CEB brass bullets and found very similar POI between the matched solids and raptors in the larger calibers which the solids are...

    375 Solid?? **Elephant**

I'm bringing a 375 H&H as a backup gun to a 458 Lott next year for elephant. I've had great accuracy results with both CEB and Woodleigh Hydro solids in 300gr. I'm likely bringing the CEBs due to their continued availability. Both have had great reviews on both forums and with PH's I've...

AHR Custom CZ 550 American Safari Magnum 458 Lott Barrel 24" Number 2 Upgrade In Bell & Carlson Stock

A number 2 upgrade is not depicted in those photos. That would include the 3 position safety as well as Wayne’s trigger (which sits further back in the trigger guard). It does appear to have had the sights and barrel band swivel added, as well as the bolt handle filled and straightened.

Carrying your rifle in the bush

Sling on my PG rifles. I prefer the Montana sling, 1.25". I carry on my right shoulder with a set of bino's cross body in a RYO sling (sitting on my left hip). With a cartridge carrier on my right hip, I can tuck the slung rifle behind the cartridge carrier and essentially go hands free...

    Trophy Room/Office Progression

Received my euro's and zebra rug from South Africa a few months ago. My office is quickly filling up. Went with a taxidermist in RSA for the work and found the quality definitely less than what I've received from my taxidermist here in the states. Price was great, but quality was commensurate.

    .458 Lott/CEB experiment a success

I'd certainly appreciate the data you have for RL15. I'll PM you an email address. I'm very light on 4064 and don't have any of the other listed powders. I'm heavy on H4831, IMR 4831, H4350, IMR 4350, Varget and RL15.
