.375H&H Barrel length… what say you?

I get it. I was not a fan until I tried them. I'm still the same way about electric cars but more unlikely to adopt.

Well, I can understand the assumption. But I actually own the rifle and it's not.

.375H&H Barrel length… what say you?

The phone presents a slightly different view from what it looks like to the naked eye. For example, when i put my cheek to the stock, i don't really see the scope rear frame. Just the view. It also exacerbates the interference of the stock and the can. For those mentioning lugging a can -...

.375H&H Barrel length… what say you?

My view is similar when using a longer range scope such as a 3-15x42. I see very little of the barrel or can. The picture i posted is using the 1x setting on a 1-6x. much wider FOV.

I'm also disinclined to be keen on muzzle brakes. I would that they were controlled by law and suppressors were not.

How magnanimous of you. Please pause while I genuflect in deference. Here's a view at typical eye relief distance at 1x facing down the frightfully dangerous black Labrador

.375H&H Barrel length… what say you?

Besides being cool, I'm starting to lean toward the camp that suspects that cans improve grouping. I received the biggest surprise of almost 10 years of load development this week. I put a 3-15x42 scope on my 22" 375h&h with a can and shot the drops out to 200 yards. (I do plan to go to 300...

.375H&H Barrel length… what say you?

I'll be sure to let you know if I survive the hunt with my dreaded can making my barrel an extra 3" over factory length. I think the anti-suppressor case is more of aesthetics and fashion rather than practical function.

Yes, completely agree. I didn't interpret it that way at all and didn't mean to imply anything.

.375H&H Barrel length… what say you?

22" Blaser with ab raptor 10 (7" long) suppressor using 71.5 gr varget and 270gr tsx has a velocity of 2618fps at muzzle if it's of interest to in your length consideration.

While it's possible to take animals with smaller calibers, I'm a big fan of having the extra margin in place with typically recommended cartridges for game.

following with interest. A double is an occasional amusing thought to me that is slowly manifesting into a legitimate "want." I'm trying to ward it off as best i can but alas. I'm in the oddball camp in that I like over under doubles. Is the OP solely interested in side by side?

100% agreed. Troopers is one of the strange and minute genre of books that i can go through in a couple days or a long flight (like a beach read) and still feel like I got all the depth and literary red meat of Chesterton, Lewis, or Berlinski.

I think modern society should have starship troopers as required reading and seriously consider basing citizenship and voting rights off the political and philosophical theories in that book.

Bravo. Excellent post. I was 19, red/blond hair to my shoulders, combat boots, Metallica shirts, hauling boards and concrete at a lumberyard. Going nowhere. Navy school of hard knocks got this head on straight at long last. Best decision I ever made.

375h&h guidance - bullets, dies, and brass

With a 6x shooting at a 8.5x11" paper with 3 targets on it at 100 yards, the reticle is literally larger (thicker) than the target axis. It completely blocks it out. I have to interpolate bullseye position by holding away in order to see it and then moving to hold it over my assumption for...

Unfortunately i didn't load up enough and I'm not sure the wild ride is over. I did however buy a truckload of VIX puts over the last couple days. The VIX behaves like gravity. Typical and reliable fall back to earth after big spikes. However... these days... ya never know.

375h&h guidance - bullets, dies, and brass

Update: Good initial results switching to varget powder. I'm getting 0.750" groups of 3 with 71.5 grains at a COAL of 3.560 off a bench. I'm shooting with a 1-6x scope. I think I could tighten up with more scope magnification but this is well within minute of cape buffalo so no need to burn...

    Spotted Hyena Hunt

Great question. I juggled this exact question over the last few months with my PH. I'm going on a 8 day cape buff hunt and originally planned to add a hyena, but as it's nigh hunting, more difficult, and likely I would run out of time if I didn't get a buffalo in the first few days, I decided...

    Opinions please: Pros/Cons of .375 Ruger vs .375 H&H

What is the purpose of carrying a knife out in a safari..

I have no interest in knife fighting dangerous animals ala Crocodile Dundee style. I was planning on just my pocket folder and a multi-tool. However, after seeing that guy stab a cape buffalo to death with a knife, I feel I need to bring my old ka-bar from my flight gear. It's been getting...

    AI in handload development

Appreciate that. I have a thread on the load dev for the 375 and that advice aligns with others. I started with RL-15 and had H4350 (I use this for 762 NATO clone) as a candidate after varget. If I can get just under 0.75" with varget, I'm quite certain that's accurate enough for a large...

    AI in handload development

Trust but verify - Amen! I'm going to switch to a new pound of varget first as this one is almost depleted. A new pound gives me approximately 97 cartridges at this load. I'll verify no significant change, then shoot over the chronograph to verify velocity. If it's in the range I'm happy...

Hi all, For my blaser r8, I've been developing a load for cape buffalo using 270 grain TSX and initially, RL-15. However, they stopped selling the powder halfway through my trials. I switched to varget and have some favorable groups just under 3/4" at 100m with a vx6-hd 1-6x. At this point...

Another nod to Berger in the disappointment category. Ran through about 70 of the VLD-H in 308 and 155 grain. They grouped very well in my ruger no 1. But after tracking a nice buck for almost 200 yds, (on my hands and knees at times,) and then finding it was a excellent shot but not enough...
